6 Series BMW 6er Gran Coupe: spy pics and info

The BMW 6 Series is a range of grand tourers produced by BMW since 1976. Successor to the E9 Coupé.
It will not be available when my current lease runs out this November so I guess i will have to settle for the F10 for the next three years, but after that......could be!

AMAZING !!!! Only if cheaper...

I have been thinking about how it is going to be positioned price-wise within BMW portfolio and also how that will compare with the competition out there.
If it is going to priced competitively vis-a-vis CLS and A7 then that will mean being cheaper than the 6er-2 door coupe.
I am pulling hairs trying to figure out how it will be positioned price-wise.

Excellent point regarding competition in this class, especially the CLS. Something tells me the bimmer will be higher priced then the CLS but it shouldn't be drastic, maybe $3K or so for a car with similar features?

I think it's safe to say it's pretty much like this:

CLS/A7 <--- 6er <--- CL

The gap between the old CLS and old 6er was pretty big (in my country at least). Like 15,000 Euro or something.

The M6 GC is going to be more expensive than the M6 Coupe. It's going to be BMW's flagship according to Scott (make of that what you will). So I can't see the standard 6 GC being less than the standard 6 Coupe.

With all due respect Klier, you constantly refer to Holland when talking about the prices of cars and how they relate to each other, but you and I both know the Dutch market is quite different from the majority of markets around the world. The selling price is largely affected by the BPM, which is influenced by emissions. Hence the the M3 being almost the same price as the 911 in Holland, yet everywhere else there's a big difference in selling price.

I know this, but we've had this discussion about the prices of the CLS and 6er before, and I'm pretty sure there's quite a gap in other regions too. Don't you recall the price of the old 6er vs the old CLS in England???

And while I know the Dutch market is different, the difference between different cars usually is around the same with other countries. Strangely not for the 911 no, which I just recently found out...

Quickly looking, the new 650i is from $83k in the U.S, and the CLS 500 (550) is from $71k. Quite a gap. Still the same class though I would say...

Germany: 650i 85.000 euro, CLS 500 80.000 euro. Less big.
U.K: 650i 67.000 pound, CLS 500 60.000 pound...

The difference between the CLS and the 6er here is big too. 6er is almost the same price than the equivalent 7er in Spain.

As it happens, I do agree that the 6 Series Coupe sits quite a bit above the new CLS in terms of price. I specced a CLS 350 CDI today and it was quite a bit cheaper than a similarly specced 640d, at least in the UK. The strange thing is, the CLS 63 AMG, even moderately specced, was around £90,000, which is a joke to be honest. The M6 will be around £93-£95,000, and the 6 Series Gran Coupe will be touching £100,000.

^^ But the difference between a 350 CDI and 40d is like 60 hp or something? Would be more fair if there was a 630d option vs the CLS 350 CDI ;)

BTW, CL500 starts from $114,000 in the U.S, so that car is much more expensive than 6er. CLS and 6er are in the same class from MB's pov...though like last generation, the 6er is not exactly competitive price wise. I think 10k is a huge gap for the same class car with the same equipment and the same engine.

I'm with Betty, IMO the 6er GC will most definitely be positioned above its coupe sibling. There's no reason to position the 4-door GC below the 6er Coupe because the 5er family covers that area. I don't see the 6er GC as being a direct competitor to the CLS and A7, but rather a closer competitor to something like the Panamera. No doubt it'll be compared to, and mentioned in the same sentence as the CLS and A7, but I imagine in terms of price and luxury it'll be a class above.

Half a class max :D, and I think we pretty much all agree on the GC being the most expensive 6er, or most expensive BMW even (exept maybe the 760i V12)

OK.

CLS 350 (Petrol) = 306hp = £49,998
BMW 640i = 320hp = £59,565

£10,000 more.

I do believe both have similar levels of standard spec like sat nav and leather seats.

The strange thing is, the Gran Coupe is going to be a couple of thousand more than the 6er Coupe, which means it's going to seem overpriced compared to the CLS. As much as BMW would like the Gran Coupe to be seen as a class above the CLS, I don't think journalists and the customer will see it that way.

I am hoping the M6 GC will be priced closer to the CLS63AMG here in the US and that will be a figure circa $95K. The way the products are priced here puts the 6 series M6(based on the going model) above the CLSAMG and pricing the M6GC above the M6-2-door coupe will certainly price it out of the competition.

............................>>>>>> M6(E63)---------102K
CLS63AMG---94.9K >>>>>> M6(GC)-----95K-est
E63 AMG-----87.6K >>>>>> M5(E60)----85.7K

I hope it comes in below $100K.

Well it's been like this the previous generation too so it appears to work for both. But the 6er was not available as a 4 door last gen, so we'll see what happens when people can compare two cars that are exactly the same ('coupes' with 4 doors)...
Beemer might be right in comparing the 6er GC to Panamera instead of CLS...

Do you guys really expect 6er Gran Coupe will be cheaper than regular 6er Coupe? :D

Gran(d) Coupe - paltry price? I don't think so.

Do you read? Nobody thinks that.

The positioning seems odd, above the CLS but not quite near the CL. It will be compared directly to the CLS though because of the '6' moniker though.

Agree that it will be compared with the CLS. But as klier suggested, maybe the Panamera will be a better car to compare the Gran Coupe with, especially if it has good rear seat ingress/egress and delivers the goods performance wise.
