Again... all these pointless cgi's, put together from different Audi models. Totally waste of time.

Again... all these pointless cgi's, put together from different Audi models. Totally waste of time.

So they're pointless because they were put together from different Audi models (Taking styling cues from them)?
Isn't that exactly what an auto design studio does?

I'd be surprised if it evolved this little to be honest and a little disappointed too. Though as Martin said about the A3, when your on to a good thing why change it.

Too much change. I'm not expecting it to deviate much from the current design. Just a big facelift is to be expected.

2014 Audi A4 to have muscular styling, improved aerodynamics - report

New details are starting to emerge about the 2014 Audi A4.
In an interview with Auto Motor and Sport, Audi design chief Wolfgang Egger said the next-generation model will have muscular styling and improved aerodynamics. He also revealed the car will feature an upright "three-dimensional" grille as well as better defined wheel arches.
Engine options remain unconfirmed, but choices could include a 122 PS (90 kW / 120 hp) 1.4 TFSI, a 180 PS (132 kW / 178 hp) 1.8 TFSI and a 2.0 TDI with 150 PS (110 kW / 148 hp). Additionally, we can expect a plug-in hybrid variant with an electric-only range of approximately 50 km (31 miles).

Feels like the A4 just came out. Weird. Even the old one doesn't seem that distant to be 2 generations old.

Audi have a tough task, the toughest, in fact. How does a brand who's been known for the smallest of incremental changes/evolving, and is just starting to gain some REAL momentum, keep it going? Too much change and you ruin what brought you such momentum, but too similar, and you get people like me who can't tell an old or new Audi apart.

For their business model and upholding the passionate elements that drive their enthusiast base, I think they should stick to careful "911 like" evolving. They won't win someone like me over, but I'm simply not their clientele.

^Can't agree that Audi are known for small changes, the change in grille design and lights from B6 to B7 was quite major since your face is your image.

And the grille and lights continues to be the area of most change.

Audi A4 (2014): the new A4 codenamed B9

17 August 2012 10:22
Audi's biggest selling car, the A4, will be replaced in two years' time. Codenamed B9, the new saloon arrives first in 2014, followed by the Avant in early 2015 - and it'll be the first Audi to premiere the company's new electric Quattro drivetrain and not one but two hybrid options.
So while the A4 still looks recognisably like an Audi saloon (that is to say, exactly like a baby A6/junior A8), the technology underpinning the sober body is radically new. As ever under the VW firmament, there's a new acronym to describe the oily bits: the new MLBevo matrix.
New Audi A4 (2014): 100kg lighter

This new architecture is both lighter and more flexible, according to Ingolstadt high-ups contacted by CAR. Our sources suggest the new A4 will be around 100 kilos lighter than today's car, suggesting a kerbweight starting from 1330kg.
That'll be to the benefit of, well, everything really: performance, handling, economy and emissions will all benefit from the reduction in weight - and each of these are areas where improvement is required if Audi is to keep up with fast-moving rivals from BMW and Mercedes.
Audi A4 to premiere new e-quattro system

Audi plans to launch its first plug-in hybrid system on the new A4, and we can also expect to see the company's new e-quattro system, which drops the mechanical diffs and propshafts required for today's Q cars in favour of an electrically driven rear axle. It adds two e-motors delivering a combined 136bhp to power the rear wheels.
In principle it's rather like the PSA Peugeot Citroen Hybrid4 system, enabling 20 miles of silent e-running around town in rear-wheel drive mode or both powerpacks for autobahn hoofing. Just think; they'll even be able to dial out the understeer that continues to plague FWD Audis with an electric torque vectoring magic wand.
There'll be a conventional front-wheel drive plug-in hybrid options too. The B9 PHEV marries a 226bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 35bhp electric motor integrated in the transmission housing.
Audi A4 (B9): petrols and diesels galore too

As far as conventional drivetrains go, highlights for the new A4 include a more potent 225bhp 2.0-litre petrol-fed four and the long overdue high-end 2.0-litre TDI rated at 197bhp and 295lb ft. The Multitronic transmission disappears for good and all engines meet the new EU6 regs.
Audi is desperate to shed its 'nearly' reputation as a driver's car and the new MLBevo components set is designed to improve the dynamics of the A4. As well as being lighter and more flexible, it's said to be significantly stronger and stiffer which gives the chassis tuners more leeway.
The same underpinnings will be used for the future A5 coupe, Sportback and cabriolet earmarked for roll-out throughout 2014 and 2016. And the A4 family will swell further: a new type of roomier, flexible estate car/MPV is in the works for launch in 2016. No name yet, but conceptually it's a Superavant, inspired by concepts such as the Avantissimo and Roadjet.

I think the looks will be an amalgam of the new A3's front and the A6's rear. "a new type of roomier, flexible estate car/MPV is in the works for launch in 2016" A direct rival for the 3er GT then

2014 Audi A4 (B9) will get major updates over the current generation.

In about two years, Audi will replace the current A4 with the new model (B9) that will be followed by an Avant variant in 2015. This will be the first model coming out from Ingolstadt to get the firm's new electric Quattro drivetrain. As far as the design is concerned, don’t expect a lot of changes as it will still be a baby A6, but that's where the similarities will end.
The 2014 Audi A4 is tipped to be more flexible and lighter, according to CAR. The British magazine reports that the new A4 will be about 100 kg (220 lb) lighter than the current model so the lightest model will weigh somewhere around 1330 kg (2932 lb).
Besides going on a diet, the A4 (B9) will also get Audi's plug-in hybrid system and chances are that it will also feature the e-quattro system that will ditch the current mechanical diffs and propshafts necessary for the Q models in favor of an electrically driven rear axle. It will probably get two e-motors capable of providing a combined output of 136 HP (100 kW) to motivate the rear wheels.
It will also be available with conventional engines, such as a more powerful version of the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter gasoline unit with 225 HP (165 kW), along with an updated version of the 2.0-liter TDI with 197 HP (145 kW). Audi also plans on rolling out a front-wheel drive plug-in hybrid in the form of the B9 PHEV which will get a 2.0-liter 226 HP (166 kW) gasoline engine and a 35 HP (26 kW) electric motor that will be installed within the transmission housing.

P.S. Can a mod move this to the A4/S4/RS4 section?

P.S. Can a mod move this to the A4/S4/RS4 section?

Done.

In my opinion, the A4 is in need of a major underpinnings reworking. If you do a small bit of research you will be surprised to find out that all the part numbers for the suspension components are the same for the B6, the B7 and the B8. Despite Audi announcing a suspension redesign for the B7 and a new chassis for the B8, this, sadly, isn't true. The only suspension part that was changed in the B6 to B7 transaction was the front lower wishbone bushings. Everything else is the same.

(this was discovered by finding the part numbers for the wishbones for my friend's B6 A4, and going to the local Audi dealer to double check them. They gave out results for, not only the B6, but the B7 and B8.)

Also, the engine carriers of the B8 are in the same position as they were in the B6/7 chassis. The dimensions were altered, but creating an empty space between the front fender and the engine carrier. Which is also one of the reasons of the poor score of the B8 in the 25% front overlap crash test.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
