SLK/SLC [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz SLK / SLC R172 facelift

The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a compact executive roadster, produced by Mercedes-Benz. It was released in 1996 and was built at the Mercedes plant in Bremen, Germany, until the end of production in 2020. The former name "SLK" was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht (lightweight), and kurz (short). With the release of the facelift R172 in 2016, the SLK-Class was renamed to SLC-Class in accordance with the revised nomenclature adopted by Mercedes. Under this scheme, roadsters use the base name "SL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy, the letter "C", being the roadster equivalent to the C-Class.

Not their finest SLK.

BMW has no room to talk. The Z4 is in a horrible position market wise. I mean the SLK may be ugly, but it doesn't have such a badly split personality as the Z4. The E89 is not a cruiser, nor is it a sports car. As such it is trounced by both Mercedes and Porsche in sales.

At least Z4 does not look like two cars stuck together.
The first SLK was a design master stroke this is further from that era of simplicity.
Its too complex therefore they got lost in the translation.

Meanwhile... Zetsche and Winterkorn are taking a swim in their money rooms.

Just another thing I found interesting. Given the reasonable assumption that most Cayman customers would also be a potential Boxter customer, thus meaning the sales numbers can be added together. The combined Boxter/Cayman sales numbers are on par with sales numbers of pre-Cayman, pre-recession Boxter sales of the earlier 00's. And this is despite both cars being a lot more expensive to actually buy than a Z4.

This means the roadster/mid level sports car/impractical 2-seater segment is not dead like BMW claims it to be. Z4 sales are dead because the E89 is not good enough. Regardless of how good looking the E89 is (and it is very good looking), it is not the SPORTS CAR it needs to be for the current market.

BMW has to stop playing the middle ground. Its pointless to try to make a impractical car make practical sense to a buyer. So they need to either chase Mercedes with a luxury 2-seater or ditch the metal roof, tighten up the chassis and chase Porsche with a sports car. Given the sales data, I know which one I'd choose.

If I may ask for a favor: Can we please stop posting those eye soring amateur renderings from indianautosblog? That "artist" doesn't have a clue of how the vehicle will look like.

It will probably be difficult to tell this FL SLK from the upcoming FL SL looking at the front of this mule!

@Wolfgang so what´s the plan with MB roadsters then? Have this thing 9 years in the market (facelift in 2016, replacement in 2020) and the SL for some good 10 years?

Isn't BMW also keeping the same Z4 until 2020 ? Remember how roadsters used to be THE thing to have. Now, they're dead.

Also, I think they're dumping the SLK 55 -
