SLK/SLC [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz SLK / SLC R172 facelift

The Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class is a compact executive roadster, produced by Mercedes-Benz. It was released in 1996 and was built at the Mercedes plant in Bremen, Germany, until the end of production in 2020. The former name "SLK" was derived from sportlich (sporty), leicht (lightweight), and kurz (short). With the release of the facelift R172 in 2016, the SLK-Class was renamed to SLC-Class in accordance with the revised nomenclature adopted by Mercedes. Under this scheme, roadsters use the base name "SL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy, the letter "C", being the roadster equivalent to the C-Class.
More powerful than the 450 AMG Sport with 270 kW (367 hp)? :)

While willing to concede some details, Moers wouldn't give too much away about how this car would fit into the range. But he seemed to be suggesting a two-tier V6 approach, with an equivalent to the AMG Sport 450 as well as a new higher tune of the same 3.0-litre V6 mass-produced engine, which would add a new niche into the AMG line-up.

So are we talking about no one man one 'Hand built engines' for this car. I'm very disappointed.
Unless they can make it sound like a true AMG.

Yes. Perhaps the SLK Triturbo Concept inspired the new engine sitting above the 450 AMG? Could it be an SLK 450 AMG Sport TriTurbo or some such with up to 295 kW / 401 PS? :)

"It's close, it's not far away, I think we show up with the car in Detroit," Moers said. "It's the sportiest and - regarding driving dynamics - agile SLK we ever made.

"It's a nice car."

The top AMG model in the SLC range is expected to be more powerful than the new AMG Sport line of models, such as the GLE 450 – which offers 270kW/520Nm from the 3.0 twin turbo – but not top the power output of the current SLK 55.

So this car comes 5 years after the SLK was introduced. What does that mean for the all new SLC? 2019?

AMG need to work on making the new SLC AMG a great driving experience. Extensive suspension reworking and expert spring/damper tuning, reducing understeer, making the steering sharper and more direct, reducing body roll and making the suspension stiffer and tauter without ruining comfort, making the rear end more playful and willing to drift with a LSD and then finally installing a highly powerful and responsive engine and matching quick shift gearbox.

Possible specs:

SLC AMG 55

Engine: New straight six, electric variable twin turbo, 3.0ltr, 330kw (450PS), 600nm, 170kg weight, cylinder deactivation, variable valve timing and lift control, individual controlled piezo injectors with 500bar pressure.
Gearbox: Most likely 9speed MCT with a shift time of 0.1sec if possible.
Car weight: 1550kg
0-100km/h: 4.1sec
1km sprint: 22.0sec
Top speed: 305km/h
CO2: 160g/km
Ring time: 7:48

MBCA citing Motorauthority writes it might be a V6? :)

This model is expected to feature a version of the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 fitted to existing AMG sport models like the C450 AMG and GLE450 AMG Coupe. However, in an interview with Australia’s Motoring, Mercedes-AMG chief Tobias Moers hinted that we will likely see more power extracted from the engine in the SLC than the unit’s current highest rating of 362 horsepower. He also hinted that it may wear a badge we haven't seen yet.

"It's more part of the AMG family than the sport models as of today are," Moers said. "So we are going to change something, let's wait and see."

I guess cause this more powerful 367PS, 3.0-liter V6 has just come out, we will see this engine for a few more years before been replaced by the in-line 6. It will be nice if AMG could modify it and could get close to 320kw (435PS)/550nm out of this V6, it will be a pity to lose that fabulous V8 but understandably the V6 will be lighter and less nose heavy than the V8.

Would certainly be very strange why it would not top the power of the SLK 55, but maybe if it at least equaled or came close (maybe 300kW/408PS) then with lower weight it will match the performance of that fabulous V8.

I would just fall down if this were to come true. Such an engine would definitely be in the E-Class, but tuned a little less agressively say 435hp to replace the E550. That would be the car for me.

This wait is killing me, and yes I'm interested in the SLC all be it in V8 guise.

So this is my prediction/wish

Closer to AMG family new badge not seen before. = SLC63.

More value for money, price reduction = tried and tested 4.0 Biturbo detuned from 467.

My logic behind this is from a hand built V8 down to a mass produced V6 would justify price reduction but will not be seen as value for money.

Oh if wishes were horses ☺️☺️ Wolf????

:(:(:(:(

That brings the Boxter sharply into focus.
After all if the V8 rumble goes, then the Porsche Boxter would make sense, sound wise.
Only problem is I'm not too keen on soft tops, London is very different to what it was many years ago.
Ah well.

As a Merc fan, I think the Boxter is the better car. :censored::censored::censored: I understand wanting the hardtop though.
Maybe wait until you've heard the new 450 AMG - I saw/heard one drive past in Affalterbach, sounded pretty good to me.
You live in London ? Lucky you.

V8 rumble is great - but a rorty flat 6 with sports exhaust sounds AWESOME!
