The BMW 5 series wasn't en par with the E-Class 20 years ago, now it is.
5er was on par 20 years ago and has been the class leader with some margin since the E39.....which is roughly 20 years ago.

W213 its truely a shitty car to be honest..the screens are rectangular, no innovation for the driver..for eg it has pre safe which saves your ears from damage during a crash..i mean who needs that.
It has uninspiring exterior design, even though no one here has seen it yet.. Also it is not even innovative enough, even though no one has been informed on what innovations it has on board.
On the other hand the 7er, it has detachable ipad and gesture Control..now that is something to write home about.
Mercedes has lost the plot, the car is doomed Before release.
For me - and I consider myself a hardcore MB loyalist, having driven MB products almost exclusively for the past 25 years - the latest generation of MB products and innovations has commenced to depart from the core values of what made MB strong over the course of a century: True, customer value oriented innovation, strict form-follows-function, superior quality and durability, and avoidance of anything that smells like fashion of flavor of the day.mes obvious. Similarly, why can we - in many key markets - only get a good looking E-Class with awful sports suspension, and sports grille?
Nah, MB did the best they could. They're just a decade behind in user interfaces. They'll be ok though, no need to worry. You're right about the exterior design though. And you are also right about all this pre safe nonsense, of course.
All the E-class models since W210 have always been closely matched to the 5-series, the 5-series hasn't been the dominant car in this segment. If you look at the history of comparison tests from various magazines over the 20 years since E39, both E-class and 5-series have been beating each other, its always been close, the 5-series hasn't won all comparison tests, even when there has been overlapping model changes. Each model series has had strengths and weaknesses against the other car.5er was on par 20 years ago and has been the class leader with some margin since the E39.....which is roughly 20 years ago.

I tend to agree with a car magazine commentator's view on the interior of the G11/12. It was almost like BMW panicked after seeing the W222 S Class and decided to throw as much toys and tech to the G11/12's interior in the hope of trumping the S Class.
Obviously, he is being sarcastic^ That's what you call clarity??
I have to look twice to see where the needles are pointing on the dials. Did they hire a graphics designer from Honda or what?

Sorry guys, but the S Class' interior has an air of elegance and serenity that the G11/12 just can't match.
Check that video again and compare it to the 7-series, this E-class user interface on the command system is totally different to that used on other Mercedes models. It has more detailed and logical menu structures. Plus the pads on the steering wheel make scrolling through the menus look very easy and intuitive without taking your hands off the wheel. The 7-series advantage maybe is its touch screen interface but the gesture control is a gimmick, it has no advantage to use in comparison to the normal wheel scrolling and selection. It is used for volume control, swipe ending of phone calls, some navigation turning off and on functions and also for the parking camera for swiveling the vehicle around on the screen. They're just a decade behind in user interfaces.
Its the same with the S-class vs 7-series, I don't think the S-class has been the ultimate class leader either, the 7-series has always been the S-class most deadliest rival, from the E23 up to now, its always been close. That's why I love BMW and Mercedes so much, always been the best cars in the world, each outdoing each other in some ways. We wouldn't have the technology and safety in small cars if it wasn't for these 2 car makers filtering their innovations from S-class/7-series to smaller cars like Polo or Clio.Just like the 7er vs S class, yet the S class somehow is the ultimate class leader? Please bro.
If S class is, so is the 5er.
Either way, good to see the strong BMW hate over here.
How about Wolfgang?
