E-Class (W213) [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class (W213)

The W213 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the fifth generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Production: February 2016–2023 as model years: 2017–2023. It succeeded the W212/S212 E-Class models. The coupe/convertible models share the same platform as the sedan/wagon, in contrast to the previous generation. The high-performance Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63S versions of the W213 have been available as well from 2016 (as a 2017 model), and these are the only versions with V8 engines.

Even the pre FL W211 had leather airbag cover. I hope the new one will have it also.

This w211 looks very clean

I rekon now in the next week, if theres any brochure leaks or the like it'll be now. theres already a base spec dial pack story on WCF for sale via ebay.

My one hope for the analog instrument panel is that it can be placed in the C and other models easily. Wouldn't be surprised to see it on the C facelift.

My problem with it on the E is how it is integrated with that terrible back shiny frame.

No it's not cool, it is immature. High tech? No way, many years ago, digital animation was high tech. Time must catch up with Mercedes. This is just ridiculous. They can do intelligent things of the digital display instead.
Oh..I was being a little sarcastic, but I think customers want something new and familiar to them at the same time. What do you suggest Mercedes do instead?

So much this. That digital display looks tacky, Japanese and from the early 2000s. Sorry guys.

Audi's digital display is far superior looking, even in a 'lowly' A4 and TT.

To be frank, I'm in agreement with Walnut and leather and klier on this.

Seeing the excitement about a 1980s video console style instrument panel is for me the culmination of a brand that has gone astray. For me - and I consider myself a hardcore MB loyalist, having driven MB products almost exclusively for the past 25 years - the latest generation of MB products and innovations has commenced to depart from the core values of what made MB strong over the course of a century: True, customer value oriented innovation, strict form-follows-function, superior quality and durability, and avoidance of anything that smells like fashion of flavor of the day.

The W213 will be the most unsurprising vehicle when it comes to exterior design and at the same time, completely overdone on the interior. What made a W126 or W124 shine was not a fancy, tacky interior, but the relaxedness of a functional, timeless, technology-oriented layout.

Looking back at the E-Class history, the last true addition to MB's brand value has been the W124. The W210 was a design and quality desaster. The W211 got its grove back on design, but failed on quality. The W212 objectively is the best ever Mercedes-Benz when it comes to quality and reliability, but failed on its design. The BMW 5 series wasn't en par with the E-Class 20 years ago, now it is. Maybe even superior - how come? A challenging starting position for the W213. But the answer isn't to run after fashion and pre-launch excitement, but much more to deliver on traditional MB values like safety, quality, timeless design, technological superiority.

Frankly I can't stand the sports grille on the E-Class, and Gorden Wagener's statement that with the C-Class the ratio of sports vs. luxury grille has been 80:20, is only due to the fact that they made the Exclusive version so unattractive (with wheel choices that make the wheel house gaps look like a black hole), that the customer choice becomes obvious. Similarly, why can we - in many key markets - only get a good looking E-Class with awful sports suspension, and sports grille?

I'm also resenting MB's focus on an overly orchestrated marketing buzz. Having marketing surrogates like Der Landgraf make the brand look better, isn't worth of the oldest automotive brand in the world. It's a reflection of certain executives that I know are more interested in themselves looking good as opposed into investing into the brand long-term.

I have just sold off my two Pfeiffer-era MBs to renew my "private fleet", but - for the first time in my life - started to doubt whether MB is still the brand of my choice.

All of the above purely subjective and to be taken with a grain of salt...

You guys need to watch the funf, sec video where the guy is riding inside the the E-class and the chief engineer is showing the different functions of the E-class dash, it has one of the best TFT displays around, the graphics and number of sheer functions is amazing. We will have to live with this as all luxury cars are going this way, this type of multi digital displays is available in a Passat now. The more goodies and safety features a car has the only way it can be displayed is on screens like this.

Why a giant tachometer? I do not understand why it exists in a luxury car.

Because the bigger central tachometer is a part of Daimler protfolio since..uff....

So i'm reeealy glad that it came back....although i cant wait to get me the W222 in summer, i'm not happy at all about the tachometer in it, cause its like in all other cars (just left and right, nothing in the middle besides the nightvision - which, btw.is quite small)

Interesting opinion with lots of valid points.

How about Wolfgang?

All automatics. You don't even need a tachometer in a Benz. No point at all, the car shifts when it wants.

I don't like the graphics, and I have seen the vid.
I simply am no fan of the two giant rectangular screens. They're okay, but rather unsophisticated. A little line of LED around them doesn't change that.
