6 Series (G32) [Official] BMW 6er GT (G32)

The BMW G32 is the fourth generation 6 Series, which went on sale from 2017 to 2023. The body style of the G32 is a 5-door fastback and it is marketed as "6 Series Gran Turismo" (replacing the previous generation 5 Series Gran Turismo).
Well, i do care. Because it's a disgrace that a car like this starts with number 6 and we all know what is 6 series and what is a goddamn higher and longer 5er.

Luckily they didn't name it 8 series GT. (n)

You can say what you want as a real BMW fan, I was talking about the MB fans who pretend to be outraged. Pathetic.

Also, let it go. I let it go long before. It's just a name, and heritage doesn't mean anything anymore for BMW, and it has been like this for years already.

As a car this thing is absolutely wonderful and Audi and MB may wish they had something like this. It's the ultimate continent cruiser. The ultimate GT in the true sense of the word.

Yeah man i know who cares about the name people are acting like 6 series means something when in fact besides the first one and the 6er gc they have all been awful. I'm with you!

Seriously looks like we're dealing with a bunch of kids here. Incredible. Who the F cares about the name?
Then again, it's mostly the crybaby MB fanboys 'complaining'. Nothing new.

If you think this is bad, you should see the childish moronic shit-fest on the other site.

I don't care with who you are with your idiotic comments.

I don't go to that other site. I hate it over there.
This here is bad enough.

@Enl explanation regarding the name changes and future model designations makes a lot of sense, I still would have preferred the old format but hey - If they are offering additional 6er models (Please oh please a real E coupe rival) I'll be happy.

For the german market:

BMW 630i GT: 62.300 Euro
BMW 640i GT: 68.100 Euro
BMW 640i GT xDrive: 70.700 Euro
BMW 630d GT: 66.900 Euro
BMW 630d GT xDrive: 69.500 Euro

BMW 6er GT: Preis ab 62.300 Euro, deutlich teurer als bisher
Who in his right mind, will pay this kind of money for a "fließheck"-5er BMW...?

Look, there's no doubting it's a better looking car than the 5er GT - heck, that ain't sayin much - but, as a practically-minded individual, I have to question certain outcomes simply because I have no access to deep insights. Is there going to be a "normal" 6 Series i.e. coupe and convertible? Intuition tells me otherwise because BMW have already positioned their 8 Series concept and M8 derivatives. I'm led to understand: no traditional 6 Series - can anyone here refute this with certainty?

So now - I have to ask - why the 6 Series GT moniker? If the intention was to push the model upmarket and out of the 5er line-up then why not just call it the new BMW 6 Series, period.
What is the point of the GT moniker then? BMW seems to have asked a question with its Gran Coupe derivatives and, seemingly, this question has been answered: the Gran Coupe undertaking proved to be less of a success than expected. Conversely, the GT range proved to be a better-than-expected success. So, why not just 6 Series in the idiom of:

So ... 1er < 2er < 3er < 4er < 5er < 6er < 7er < 8er ... and ... X1 < X2 < X3 < X4 < X5 < X6 < X7 (< X8)

I now understand the logic of dispensing with the previous and potentially inflexible logic of odds vs evens nomenclature in favour of an incremental series denoting price positioning.
But it's the GT thing that has me perplexed and left questioning what's going on with the 6 Series range as a whole.

I have yet to see so much hatred and dismissal on a new model. Positive feelings are just very few among the load of spitting going on in this thread. Calling this a car a turd is not at all an example of a bright mind, it is just plain silliness, with all due respect. Period.

The 6er Reihe, as we know today, is approaching its conclusion. As I have said in a previous post, adding the successor of the 5er GT in the 6er family might dilute the whole purpose of this model series. But it also heralds a new perspective for the BMW model family.

The 5er GT is a niche model and now, for further differentiation from the core 5er family, it was added to the 6er Reihe as to signal its added premium factor. In the future, the same thing will happen to the 3er GT - it will become 4er GT (putting the future of the 4er Gran Coupe in doubt). If the 2er Coupe can co-exist with the 2er Active Tourer, for instance, why cannot this car be named 6er?

I see the new 6er GT as a more attractive and robust proposition to the current 5er GT. It is a very elegant car, with clearly defined, striking lines, boasting a more dynamic and coherent stance and enhanced premium feel, especially inside. Adding the technological avant-garde and the improved dynamics and handling, I think it will sell better than the current generation.

P.S.: The "GT" label on the panels of the rear doors feels very refined.

@martinbo as well

6er Reihe was a child of a very difficult era. Mind its precursor was the BMW Z9 Coupe & Cabrio Concepts - which were vehicles of one class higher & one size bigger than the actual production version of E63 6er ... and were actually 7er based.

Z9 was planned to be a new generation of 8er but it was reduced to smaller, cheaper 6er. Then another attempt of 7er-based 8er revival was scraped: project Gran Turismo.

So, BMW are returning to the original idea: reviving the 8er coupe & now also cabrio. While 6er is now positioned to be "a new era gran turismo vehicle": offering effortless travelling in style & comfort. And today effortless travelling / driving is all about roomines, comfort & also about semi-command sitting position. Original 6er was a GT of its era, today's 6er GT is a GT of today's era.

Also GTs were once kings of twisted rural / mountain / coastal roads ... Today's GTs are more of an Autobahn cruisers.

Also, the BMW GTs have their own customer pool & followers. It's a niche. But still bigger one than the one of classic bigger coupes like 6er coupe or 6er gran coupe.

Such positioning will eventually enable upgrading of some of the niche models in the future ... eg. some 2ers being more 3ers tahn 1ers; 4ers being more 5ers than 3ers; 6ers being more 7ers than 5ers; 8ers being positioned above 7er etc.
So will a coupe ever get an odd series number?

imho all these GT models are just a disgrace on a dynamic brand like BMW, they are beyond ugly and is something you would expect from a lifestyle brand like peugeot etc..but this new one isn't all that bad especially compared the previous one it is noticeably more sleeker and resolved..but I still would never touch one:eek: and the name 6 series is an even bigger shame..lol

I really can't think of a more luxurious, spacious and comfortable car this side of the S-Class and 7-Series.
Going by the information we have on hand it should ride just as smooth as the G11 which means it will be almost as comfortable as an S-Class. It surely will be better to drive than both of these cars too.

To answer your question: Everyone in their right mind would buy this car if they had the money.
At its price range there simply are no competitors that could even get close to how competent this car will be in delivering luxury and comfort to its occupants. The only cars that really compete with it cost tens of thousands more.
The thing is people rarely only listen to their mind when they are making a purchase.

To all.
Stop crying about a name you can't change. It's done and it is called a 6er.
For the potential customers: you can skip the badge "6GT" on the back for the extra cost of €/$ 0,00 and call it 5GT for yourself.
For those who will not buy it: BMW don't give a damn whether you like it or not.

I was wanting to harp on about why BMW would go the lengths of giving a single model in a series the GT suffix. Pointless - I thought.
I then got a brain fart and thought to use the Audi A7 as an example - they only have one body-style in the A7 series (as opposed to the A5 series) and so I'd prove my point.
Then I had a look at their website and Audi officially refers to this single body-style as "A7 Sportback". Screw this stupid thread. It sucks. :biggrin.doodle:
