6 Series (G32) [Official] BMW 6er GT (G32)

The BMW G32 is the fourth generation 6 Series, which went on sale from 2017 to 2023. The body style of the G32 is a 5-door fastback and it is marketed as "6 Series Gran Turismo" (replacing the previous generation 5 Series Gran Turismo).
I was hoping the side profile to be more muscular, the previous one dose it better. what a step back.
but overall the car looks good. neutral feeling for me, nothing surprises at all.

by the way, who buys those, and for what reason?
Thrill seeking individuals who lives a extremely active lifestyle looking for a ground breaking vehicle that combines ultra sporty, luxurious and elegant coupe and handling ability of a mid engine super car while travelling in the comfort of a Rolls Royce Phantom.

For the model to have an MK.II it must have a lucrative customer base somewhere whether it's older buyers with hip/back problems or the Chinese.
Of all the 5GT i haves seen on the road (6 of them in 7 years), 100% of them are driven by Chinese.

I guess I need emotional mobility to understand why this is rebadged as a 6 series.
Lipstick on a pig is still a pig.

1. Better than before. But that wasn't going to be hard. But for all it's improvements it's still a bread van and completely at odds with BMW as a brand. Hussein Al-Attar is immensely talented as we have seen over the years. But when you're asked to design a turd...well you design the best looking turd you can.
2. The front bumpers on both the standard and M variants are bad. The standard variant is particularly appalling. It looks like a vent from a piece of cheap electronic gear.
3. The use of the 6-series badge is disgraceful. Way to shit all over the legacy of some lovely looking coupes and gran coupe and a cynical attempt to make buyers think they're getting their moneys worth when they pay a premium over the 5 series.

Much better than previous generation though profile a little busy for me. Interior looks rich though. The curved wood on doors looks very nice. This interior beats most MB interiors for me. Looks so much more solid.

Quit featuring the crap M-pack...especially in white.

This is hard for me to understand. The BMW 5gt had its own unique styling inside and out, but they decided to give it the 5 series name. The 6gt gets its design DIRECTLY from the 5er, like the interior which is a direct copy and paste, and they want to call it a 6 series.

Sometimes their decisions cause me to question why I'm a fan of this brand.

Now that the initial shock is over, and I've had time to look at it...it actually doesn't look bad at all. It's actually a decent looking vehicle that should sell better than the previous model. It's a 5-Series inside and out though, so I will never understand why BMW chose to piss on the legendary 6-Series label by calling this a "6-Series". Oh well, I could live with it as 5GT, because name aside it's not bad on the eyes.

It looks like a large 3 Series GT which is a good thing!

I am utterly shocked that they have been brave enough to make it longer than the 5-Series GT. That will certainly rule it out for many.

The front bumper looks a bit like front bumper of a M5
Looks like a version of the M5's bumper for sure

Looks much better in this guise although there's something a but awkward about it .....it's not ugly though. I get more 7 series vibe

Agree, BMW have done a good job in the interior.

There are several things that surprised me in a bad way:
1.82mm longer than 5er GT, same width, same wheelbase. Wasn't it suposed to be based on the wheelbase of the new 5 Li?
2.no more twin-gate trunk opening feature. This was one of the biggest USP of the previous model, but they took the same road like Skoda with the Superb. I guess its much lighter and chipper that way, but it serves its purpose worse
3.the price. No carbon core is mentioned yet, so why such a big price increase. Very similar to the normal 5er, no separate opening tailgate, just why, why, why? Maybe much better equipped but than again the normal 5er is better equipped than its predecessor but had a moderate price increase

The premium over the G31 Estate is big with no added benefit but more space. No extra standard equipment or cool features.

Make no mistake though. Discounts on the 6 Series GT will be HUGE. Even last year you could walk into BMW and get 15% of the 5 GT without asking. Deposit contributions on the X6 have been massive too.

  • BMW 530i Touring (252 hp): From 52,300 Euro
  • BMW 540i xDrive Touring (340 hp): From 62,800 Euro
  • BMW 520d Touring (190 HP, manual): From 47,700 euros
  • BMW 520d Touring (190 HP): From 49,950 Euro
  • BMW 530d Touring (265 hp): from 56,800 Euro
  • BMW 530d xDrive Touring (265 hp): from 59,400 euros

Yep, it's now in the "5 meter Club" with its 5,091mm length (which is roughly the same as SWB G11 7er with 5,098mm; and slightly longer than LWB G33 5er @ 5,069mm).

The wheelbase of 3,070mm is the same as of G11 SWB 7er. No surprise since the chassis is taken directly from 7er's textbook (eg. two axle air suspension etc), so it's now basically a 7er-based car with 5er interior styling & layout. 5er LWB is still very much standard 5er's chassis but extended - featuring no 2-axle air suspension.

The comfort (ride, noise isolation, seats etc) is so much better than the one of the 5er. So this time around this baby is actually a more practical 7er; yet still cheaper, thus 5er-like interior.

Being lighter, lower, featuring all the chassis goodies form 7er makes the 6er GT also much more dynamic than 5er GT.

That's why the upgrade in the Series & price positioning. It's much better car it is replacing. More comfortable, more dynamic, much more 7er than 5er. To show it that it's still a class below 7er the interior is more 5er than 7er though.

TwinGate feature was not popular & widely appreciated. It wasn't cheap to made & it added extra weight & ate into boot space & contributed to the overall higher tail. So it was scrapped.

Price increase due to higher Series positioning is just about +5%, since approx +5% price increase for the new Mk would be exercised anyway - even if Mk2 being labeled as 5er GT.

Mind primary market for this car is China. A vast majority of 5er GTs have been sold there. Which took BMW a bit by surprised since they planned Europe & US to be the key markets for 5er GT. It looks like Chinese just love big, long, roomy premium vehicles ... no matter of shapes & types. That's why iNext will be big & roomy as well.
