No really, it's all new and never before seen. The three cars in the back don't exist.

One example is the Mercedes CLK which became the E class coupe.

People here seem to be missing the point. The 6er GT is the new version of the previous 5er GT with its name changed and nothing more to it. Its a freaking name change. Deal with it.

There's a difference between saying "all new" and "first ever". In fact, the phrase "all new" implicitly requires there to have been one before. The phrase "first ever" implies that there has never been one of this kind before.

That's the difference.

Again I say please show me the previous generation 6ER GT. There has never been a 6ER GT so it is the first of its kind.

Yes, we've established there has never been a 6er GT. That is not in question. What IS being questioned is BMW marketing's decision to take one SIMPLE number change from 5 to 6, and then go with it as an actual tagline/theme for the marketing, as if it's something monumental.

Nothing against the name change itself, but some might think it's weird to move the 5er GT to the 6er line which used to be a coupe, cabrio and gran coupe. It's an all new vehicle, yes, but first ever? Hardly. Anyway.. back to topic.

I saw 6gt yesterday. Looks very sleek IRL. Much better than 5gt.

This happened with the X4 as well. I think the Benz C-class coupe suffers from this to an extent as well. The illusion only appears at certain angles for me and its always the rear wheels.

The 6GT is hardly ugly. In fact, if spec'd generously, it can look quite handsome. I do find the modelname a bit puzzling. And I find it a bit difficult getting my head around the expectations regarding the commercial viability of its' concept.

Hey, being an "older dude" myself, I should be an exemplary member of the 6GTs' target group. But I'm not buying ! Not when a G31 5er is available. Or an X5 for that matter.

For the elderly and for the those with back problems semi-commanding (slightly elevated) sitting position - the normal mini-van or crossover sitting position - is confirmed the best for sitting and entering / exiting. Sedans & wagons (even more the coupes) are too low, SUVs are too high. The middle ground is just the most comfortable way. Just saying ...

The 6GT is a niche car in the greatest sense. To the oddballs out there, it will fit like a glove and be a god sent car with no substitute. It's borderline a 7-Series touring with sloping roof. If you appreciate comfort, sense of space, need practicality and spend hours on the motorway every week, it's an ideal car.

In urban environments or for regularly darting in and out of garages/parking bays, the sheer bulk of it will make it tiresome to mavouvre - especially if you haven't specced surround view.

No, it's a good looking car, no matter what some will say, especially compared to previous 5er GT... This one is more sleek, elegant and meaner looking than it's "box" predecessor...

Soooo I went to see the first ever all new 6er GT, and it’s actually quite awesome if you’re in the market for a spacious and luxurious continent cruiser.

I particularly like the 3D rear lights. Wish the 5er had those too, but we will have to wait for the facelft of the 5er for a less bland rear
