6 Series (G32) [Official] BMW 6er GT (G32)

The BMW G32 is the fourth generation 6 Series, which went on sale from 2017 to 2023. The body style of the G32 is a 5-door fastback and it is marketed as "6 Series Gran Turismo" (replacing the previous generation 5 Series Gran Turismo).

I would make it with wider rear track and with wider fender flares, to counter it's high roof.

Soooo I went to see the first ever all new 6er GT, and it’s actually quite awesome if you’re in the market for a spacious and luxurious continent cruiser.

I particularly like the 3D rear lights. Wish the 5er had those too, but we will have to wait for the facelft of the 5er for a less bland rear :(

Was it vast on the inside? How was leg in the back seat?

I didn't quite make it to the backseats, I am not really in the market so was just sitting in the front and touching stuff over there :D
But it looked spacious, like an X5 almost.

Edit; and with X5 I mean 7er. Think it's even bigger because of the high roof.

Thanks for sharing the pictures @klier

Sometimes I feel that this new GT faces some unfair hatred because of the previous generation. I also am not that fond of the 5er GT due to its heavy, block-ish rear, but this one is way better resolved, at least based on what I can see through pictures, as I didn't have the chance yet to see the car in real life.

I've asked this question before, but I wonder if this car was launched at least 20 years ago, at a time when executive hatchback / liftback cars were common and popular, will such a situation give this GT a better chance to be favored by car enthusiasts?

@M.N.D I'd say that 20 years ago no member of the BMW board would have green lighted such a car. BMW was a sporty brand back then without FWD, Vans, SUVs, and hardly a car with xDrive.
A Touring was pushing it quite frankly. To me, the E39 is the first Touring that's not designed as an afterthought. Maybe the E34 to a lesser extend.

So no to your original question. But who really cares if the internet hates the car, it's selling well and BMW wanted a new version because they can make money off it.

BTW, I liked the 5er GT. Before the watered down facelift.

but this one is way better resolved, at least based on what I can see through pictures

It's more Touring than 5er GT. I had to look twice, as it mimics a 7er from the front.

Nice analysis @klier (y)

It is possible to think of BMW as a brand that used to be strict until the release of the original X5, as their portfolio had the no-nonsense executive image with emphasis on a sporty, dynamic attitude, and even though executive hatchbacks were common like Renault Safrane and Citroen XM, maybe such a design didn't match their criteria.

I respect BMW's decision for offering different products to suit different tastes in different markets, regardless of me liking a particular offer or not. As long as they offer something I like and willing to own if I can, I'm completely fine. Yes, they've made several offers / decisions that I didn't / don't like, but I understand that BMW of the past wouldn't be able to survive in today's market without leaving some of the principles they used to hold. People may disagree on many things, but at the end of the day I hope them all the best in their business, just like you would do for your favorite football team!

According to the internet, BMW is lost, diluted and soft since forever, and the owners will never, ever own any new generation the company release because the previous gen car (which they own) is the last true BMW, until they buy that next generation, so it becomes a "true BMW" once again, and the company will be lost once again when the next generation is released.

I believe the elongated greenhouse and the less bulky hatch helped the car to look better. I saw the 5er GT a handful of times, because the car didn't seem to be offered officially in the Middle East, but could be imported as a second hand car, however it gives a different view that grabbed my attention (liking or hating it is a personal matter).[/user]

It looks great in black with awesome interior to match. Very nice combo!

Don't forget that 20 years ago BMW were the owners of Range Rover. In 1994 they'd introduced an entire SUV brand to the BMW portfolio almost overnight. They also recognised that mid to high level executive saloons were a foundation, but not viable for future growth. They stripped what they needed for growth and went onwards and upwards -- and what they needed for growth was not more saloons - it was cars that sat below the BMW range (i.e. MINI), and SUV's, i.e. everything they took from Range Rover.

The BMW that most people think of as the good old days was 1988.

Quoted for truth... It's one of the 3 fundamental laws of "The Bimmerpost Effect".

Lol. Sometimes I think they are parody accounts.

Carbon Black, which is a dark blue (y)
Still one of the best colors BMW has ever made.

E30/34 was the last of the good old days, and E36 is the first modern BMW (from my POV).

Lol. Sometimes I think they are parody accounts.

Definitely YouTube levels of intelligence over there. That is, the last time I checked those forum 2 years ago.

Nice write-up, Klier.

And again, I am realizing all the more that the new 6GT, for what it is, is an impressive automobile.

... so was just sitting in the front and touching stuff over there :D

...and you must have REALLY liked it !

I'm sure 6er GT will be very successful in some markets. Even in Europe. I was amazed seeing so much 5er GTs in eg. London. Wow!

Last week I sat in this car and find it perplexing. Inside it doesn't feel as roomy as the humongous foot print suggest. Most disappointing is that head rest in the rear is less than what you get in the 5-Series Touring.

While the boot is spacious the sloping roof presents limits if you like to haul bulky items.

For most people, a 5-Series is a much better proposition that's more agile, cheaper and is comfortable enough. The only strong reason I can think of for buying the 6GT is if you want 7-Series seat comfort and serene ride quality but can't stretch your budget by 50%.
