Soooo I went to see the first ever all new 6er GT, and it’s actually quite awesome if you’re in the market for a spacious and luxurious continent cruiser.

I particularly like the 3D rear lights. Wish the 5er had those too, but we will have to wait for the facelft of the 5er for a less bland rear

but this one is way better resolved, at least based on what I can see through pictures
@M.N.D I'd say that 20 years ago no member of the BMW board would have green lighted such a car. BMW was a sporty brand back then without FWD, Vans, SUVs, and hardly a car with xDrive.
A Touring was pushing it quite frankly. To me, the E39 is the first Touring that's not designed as an afterthought. Maybe the E34 to a lesser extend.
So no to your original question. But who really cares if the internet hates the car, it's selling well and BMW wanted a new version because they can make money off it.
I believe the elongated greenhouse and the less bulky hatch helped the car to look better. I saw the 5er GT a handful of times, because the car didn't seem to be offered officially in the Middle East, but could be imported as a second hand car, however it gives a different view that grabbed my attention (liking or hating it is a personal matter).[/user]
It looks great in black with awesome interior to match. Very nice combo!Soooo I went to see the first ever all new 6er GT, and it’s actually quite awesome if you’re in the market for a spacious and luxurious continent cruiser.

It is possible to think of BMW as a brand that used to be strict until the release of the original X5, as their portfolio had the no-nonsense executive image with emphasis on a sporty, dynamic attitude, and even though executive hatchbacks were common like Renault Safrane and Citroen XM, maybe such a design didn't match their criteria.
According to the internet, BMW is lost, diluted and soft since forever, and the owners will never, ever own any new generation the company release because the previous gen car (which they own) is the last true BMW, until they buy that next generation, so it becomes a "true BMW" once again, and the company will be lost once again when the next generation is released.
Lol. Sometimes I think they are parody accounts.Don't forget that 20 years ago BMW were the owners of Range Rover. In 1994 they'd introduced an entire SUV brand to the BMW portfolio almost overnight. They also recognised that mid to high level executive saloons were a foundation, but not viable for future growth. They stripped what they needed for growth and went onwards and upwards -- and what they needed for growth was not more saloons - it was cars that sat below the BMW range (i.e. MINI), and SUV's, i.e. everything they took from Range Rover.
The BMW that most people think of as the good old days was 1988.
Quoted for truth... It's one of the 3 fundamental laws of "The Bimmerpost Effect".

There is another reason you forgotLast week I sat in this car and find it perplexing. Inside it doesn't feel as roomy as the humongous foot print suggest. Most disappointing is that head rest in the rear is less than what you get in the 5-Series Touring.
While the boot is spacious the sloping roof presents limits if you like to haul bulky items.
For most people, a 5-Series is a much better proposition that's more agile, cheaper and is comfortable enough. The only strong reason I can think of for buying the 6GT is if you want 7-Series seat comfort and serene ride quality but can't stretch your budget by 50%.
