Interesting. If true that means new engines for the U.S. for the 2011 model year CL/S/SL that could be true. Question is where does the 544hp motor fit in, replacement for the S63?

Given MB's policy of not launching new cars+new engines altogether, then this information might actually be true.

So, LAIAS or NAIAS to reveal the mystery?:eusa_thin

544 hp for the new low-end AMG engine sound strange, as the 6.3 produces 570hp on the SLS. Maybe we cold see a new S450 with 435 hp and a new S500 with 544?.

I like those numbers, but man that would crush the segment and the current S600. I thiink the 544hp is either wrong or a replacement for the S63 AMG. The new version of the 6.2 engine in the SLS might be too rowdy to put in an S-Class???

Amg 5,5

according to older info on jesmb.de the 5,5 should be the AMG and thus replace the 6,3. The 4,6 should replace the 500. All should be with direct injection. Then there also should be a weaker version of the 4,6 that should probably supersede the old 450. I think that the torque is much more important than output. If the 4,6 biturbo has 700Nm, it should be good for sprint to 100 in flat 5 secs or maybe even under. In case of the AMG and 900Nm I do not think that the old 7g-tronic can handle that.

They should stop coming up with all these transmissions and stick with the one that just came out with the SLS.

Hi all, I'm Sebastian, long time lurker

I think MB should stop this weird schedule of tweaks and face lifts. Seriously!, C-class changes for 2010 and face lift for 2011, plus new engine for the CL after the S face lift.

Don't get me wrong I love innovations but i also hate to spend a premium for a merc for it to be outdated two years after.

Welcome to the family. Mercedes had to keep ahead of the competition. 7 years is a log time to have a vehicle on the market without tweaking and updating it. Technology is moving quickly and other all new models by competitors released within that timeframe will have an advantage if MB doesn't make these updates to stay current.

I think this gradual product improvement makes thing more manageable for them maybe? BMW started this I believe, with updates happening every model year.

But I know exactly what you mean. Our C-class was built a couple of weeks before the change in the mirror design. Not a BIG deal, but still slightly annoying.

Amg

what is quite worrying is that we have not seen any spyshots of the AMG version yet. When the testing of the facelift of the S class was in full swing we saw some shots of the AMG but not this time. So maybe we will get so far only the new CL500 and will have to wait for the AMG. On the other hand it is quite wierd, because the new amg CLS was already seen and it should beyond all doubts have the new biturbo V8 and if there is to be some new stronger gearbox they must be already employing it. MB is to uncover the new facelifted CL - S class coupe this autumn so hopefully we will get some new info quite soon.

they should be worried about introducing a new v6 instead of an 8, the w220 had like 40hp less than the 745i and it never was a problem

^ Agreed the Merc V8s are still holding their own against the new turbo units from BMW. The lower end, some 4 cylinders and all the V6's are were they really need to concentrate throughout the entire lineup.

So this should mean that the 2011 SL and CL will have that 435hp unit we've been reading about. Super. 2011 S-Class and E should get these engines also....!!!! Can't wait to see it.

I HOPE THE V6 GETS A REWORK TOO FOR 2011....!!

I can confirm directly from MB, that the FL CL will have a turbo V-8.

Don't do that to us!!! LOL. Please tell us what else is going on. Is the CL being renamed the S-Class Coupe? Will the 2011 SL get the same engine? What about the AMG versions?

At least I can confirm that the CL will be renamed the S-Class Coupe; early this year I spoke with somebody from MBUSA and it was confirmed that the FL CL will indeed be renamed the S-Class Coupe.

For some reason I doubt the new engine for the FL CL. The S would have gotten same treatment if it was in the plans. And who said the CLS was getting the TT V8? That seems dubious to me as well, with the NA 6.2L hitting it's stride so nicely. First we see these engines, I would think, will be in the new SL. But, I would be glad to be wrong.
