The Mercedes-Benz chassis code W221 is the fifth generation S-Class, produced from August 2005 until June 2013. The W221 S-Class was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W220) and the predecessor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222).

The Pre-Scan technology can not be introduced by another model than the S-Class. It's a comfort element and a quite revolutionary new technology, it has to be shown by the falgship.

And the flagship of Mercedes always was, is, and will be the S-Class, no matter what über-expensive new model is released. This is the one unleashing the innovations-firework.

So it's either for the FL 221, or for the W222. Certainly not for the SL, with its (increased) sporty pretentions.

That did cross my mind as the S-Class is THE mothership. But the SL is very much a comfort car, just look at all the 60 years old male taking their SL to a golf course. In the end the S-Class has four seats and is meant to transport people in comfort so you're right, it is the ideal car for launching pre-safe.

So pre-safe must debut in the S-class then but a new S-class isn't due until 3 years from now and by then the competitors might beat Mercedes to it. Conclusion: Presafe might debut in the facelift!

Anyone else with a different theory?

I also think that Pre-Scan will debut with the FL, but I have other reasons. Do you remember the photos with W221 driving over the bump with a glass of wine on the roof? I Think must be some kind of sign thateverything is ready and will soon appear.:eusa_pray

SL is coming in 11/12 thats 10 years ..a normal life time for a SL..
No more FL´s;)

Excuse me I meant refresh not facelift. If the new SL were to be debuted in 2011/2011 we would have seen R231 prototypes a while ago. The SL has a longer development process than most production cars. The R230 began testing in 1998, but it was debuted in 2001.

Back when the F500 concept debuted the Nightview Assist, everyone thought that the Nightview was going to debut on the Facelift W220, but it became one of the center pieces of the W221.

The current SL debuted on late 2001, so the next one should debut on lated 2011. It´s going to be a loooog, long wait.

Interesting theories. I'm starting to think pre-scan may have to wait until the next S or SL. I say the SL is possible because it is a lower volume car, just right to sort of test out any new tech before putting it on the S-Class. Just a thought.
