It might be ugly to you, but to alot of other peopple, the old gen had Heart and soul..And had a look that stood out with lotsa presence....not likethe current Std CL which has that Hyundish Look. The cl front shares no link with the rest of the Merc Family, thank god for that. they should have made the CL more radical looking or given it a S class front....
Agreed. Current CL is a very nice car. But it doesn't have the presence/cache/elegance/etc. as the previous Coupes did, during their respective Production runs.
This is the first time I can remember, where the S-Class (Sedan) is the more outspoken variant, and has a more prestigious presence.
The current Coupe has that "Solora" look to it at distances (especially the bland rear). The only way to truly appreciate its beauty, is to get up close, or see it in certain shadow-play elements, and it MUST have an AMG Pack, or it'll look awkward.
This version never seemed to have the popping-smoke "I gotta have" it effect that the 215 did at all, and it seems to be a very slow seller, even for an "S-Coupe", of course, the horrid Economy hasn't helped.
For the record, all that said, the 215 was a little too "designed" for its time for my tastes, the 216 is a bit too at odds with what it's supposed to be, but I do think it's the superior design. The 215 also looked dated fast in normal guise, although a super clean AMG Pack version STILL LOOKS INSANELY HOT AND MODERN.
