S-Class (W221) Mercedes-Benz S-Class W221 Facelift (Spy Photos & info)

The Mercedes-Benz chassis code W221 is the fifth generation S-Class, produced from August 2005 until June 2013. The W221 S-Class was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show as the successor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W220) and the predecessor of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222).

wait, were the pics on the last page real pics/renderings of the car (especially the headlights and steering wheels)

Carspyshots insider MCLAREN_P10 tell us a few clues about the new S-Class (W222)and its design and also new AMG variants as the next CLS one (wich is said to be the low W222 AMG engine, being the top one a 715 TT V8 with KERS).

No I'm speakinfg of the next generation S-Class, not the facelift for 2010. The facelift will change very lil' accept the head and tail lamps into LED and some small changes to the bumpers. The single radiator bar is exclusive to the current SL, but will be aded to all the models before 2012, to make Mercedes model line more unique then before. Backing the single bar radiator grill will be small metal slats or wise mesh, the customers choice. The smaller headlamps are all LED lights, with everything intergrated. The new taillamps will add to the styling also, due to there angle to the rear bumper, think well blended and almost seamless at the corners.

The Mercedes CLS will also showcase the direction the next generation S-and CL/S-Class oupes headlamps will go. This model is very well into development and will remain based on a long wheelbase E-class model, which will make it slightly shorter then the next generation S-Class. Also my sources suggest that the CLS will be powered by a version of the current 6.2 liter V-8 and will be followed by a twin-turbo version of the 5.0 liter V-8 producing as mcuh as 575 BHP, with power increasing to as muh as 660 BHP for the AMG.

UPDATE~!!!!!!!

Mercedes has entered the final stages of development of the SLS AMG, this model will be powered by a re-engineered version of the 6.2 liter V-8 which will produce 571 BHP and will have a topspeed of close to 202 MPH. This models aluminum spaceframe will be used in the next generation SL-Class, and SLC AMG models, I will get back to that okay? This gullwing coupe will be extremely designed with plenty of styling cues from the 300 SL Gullwing. Don't think this will be the last of a aluminum spaceframe for Mercedes-AMG, this is actually just the start of it all. The SLC AMG has offically been given to the cabriolet version of the SLS Gullwing coupe.

^yeah take that with a bucket of salt..

what he is claiming is that MB will move away from the classic grills..

They have done it with the C.. but i dont expect that on E and S..
if it happens..it will be a huge change..

cause the grills he is talking about has the emblem moved from the hood down into the grill..
I dont think that suits elegant traditionall mercs like the S and E

lOl I know, that would be a huge mistake indeed. MB better not change the normal grills. Leave that to the sports cars.

^lOl!;)

This is BS!
When Mercedes does a face/lift about 20% of the car get a revision.
It`s not just what you can see with your eyes. Take the W211 E-Class, some 2300 parts were revised and regineered (making it the best quality car in it`s class.) The S-Class might not get that much of a revision but you can bet it will be quit extensive!

All I want to know is if it will get Pre-Scan...if not I will stay seated when it arrives since they aren't going to tinker with the engines.

^I hope it gets pre-scan,that thing gonna make air.magnetic and ABC systems look ancient:D

I doubt prescan ... definetly for the new S or SL

The new R231 SL in the really early stages of Development, it will arrive around 2013-2015 time so don't expect a new SL anytime soon. The R230 will receive one more FL before the next one.

Don't be so negative man,the FL will get it..:D

The Prescan will take a few years to fully develop, you'll need to wait for the W222 (2013).

The SL will get another facelift? I just can't see that. The car just won't be relevant/competitive that long IMO. I'd say 2012 should be the latest...my gosh 2015?!?! As good a car as it is, the R230 will be obsolete by then.

Pre-Scan not being ready yet I can believe....that is some Buck Rogers tech for sure.

New SL is timed about a year off of SLC's debut. It should share a lot of design features with the SLC, as well as its spaceframe and many mechanicals. The new SL should be much more of a sports car than the current one. I look forward.

There will be no pre-safe for the facelifted S-class. A new SL is just a mere 2 years away and will get the privilege of launching Pre-safe. I don't have my doubts that it's ready for the S-class but for sales and marketing the technology is better withheld for the new SL.

I just can't see how there another facelift is lined up for the SL as the car is starting to look like a dinosaur now and will look more so when the SLS is introduced in a few months time. Add an exciting new CLS and the flagship model suddenly looks dull.

The Pre-Scan technology can not be introduced by another model than the S-Class. It's a comfort element and a quite revolutionary new technology, it has to be shown by the falgship.

And the flagship of Mercedes always was, is, and will be the S-Class, no matter what über-expensive new model is released. This is the one unleashing the innovations-firework.

So it's either for the FL 221, or for the W222. Certainly not for the SL, with its (increased) sporty pretentions.
