CLK-Class [Spyshots] Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio - C207 (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

The Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class is a series of mid-size or entry-level luxury coupés and convertibles produced by Mercedes-Benz between 1996 and 2010. Although its design and styling was derived from the E-Class, the mechanical underpinnings were based on the smaller C-Class, and was positioned between the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class and CL-Class.
Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

^No i heared there will be a real C coupe not the CLC and will be positioned right against the 3er coupe and S5.And the all new CLC will be tottaly revamped don't worry:D

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

That imo all changes now they start calling the new CLK the E-class coupé. The average Joe will never know it's really a C-class with lipstick.

But in the end I don't think the price will change, it will probably remain where it is right now. The 3er is a best seller so I don't think that MB would want to price it awkwardly. As for the CLC the revamp is a mere 3 years left and I suspect that it will be transformed into a highly attractive 1er coupe alternative. That is at least what the pricing is today, plus the fact that MB calls it a coupe. There's clearly something planned here.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

The 3 class has gone crazy on it's pricing. I've got an 07 335 sedan on my lot that stickered at $50k. That's nuts. This only makes it easier on MB to get top dollar on the CLK.

And people will know that the E-coupe is really a C-coupe on steroids. People are a lot more savvy with the internet. I am amazed at what some of my customers know from searching the web. But I think it is OK, because the C platform lends itself to better agility, which fits a coupe. Plus, looking at the spy photos you can see a plethora of differences in the CLK and the C. The previous CLK and C were so similar that if you remember, the C55 shared the entire front sheetmetal with the CLK. This time there will be no shared sheetmetal in any configuration, plus unique dash and materials. So, I think the CLK/E-coupe will do just fine. The last CLK was so lacking in macho. This one will do much better. And with the outrageous pricing of the 335, it will open the CLK coupe to many other prospects.

Don't forget that it was a 335i, it's almost a top end model and obviously don't come for cheap. MB prices are very low either, I remember stepping into an MB dealer last year and saw a C350 priced in the 50k region. Any luxury car with a strong engine gets very expensive after you add multiple options. In general MBs are more expensive than bimmers.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

A C350 with every possible option will max out at $48000, if you exclude options you can't get on the 335such as pano roof. The comparable equipped 335 would be $52,820. This is taken right from MBUSA and BMWUSA. that's a $4,800 difference. But that's not the argument. Not whether a C can get up high, but whether the CLK/E coupe can command prices. It can because when you go to the 335 coupe you tack on even more money.

When you get to a coupe with automatic you get to $50k very quick and this is where the CLK has traditionally come in.

For the last time, the chassis doesn't determine the car.

:)

The CLK is no more a C-class than a Tesla is a Lotus, or an R8 is a Gallardo.

Yeah, pricing is absurd now. A friend of mine bought one for $50,000 :eusa_doh:

For that amount, I'd rather have a Corvette with a 6 Litre V8 ;)

No, but it's a gigantic part of the car, and things like the electrical sytems and high tech will probably all come straight from the C-class as well.
We'll see what happens. I just think an E coupé should really be just that. Not a C coupé.

I agree, it's a huge part of the car, but I don't think it determines what class it belongs to.

If anything, the CLK is more a CLK than anything else. It's a car in its own right, modeled after the E-class, intended to be an executive luxury coupe.
:t-cheers:

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I agree with that. That is exactly what a CLK is.

This time though they're going to flip the script, or so we're lead to believe by calling it an E-Class coupe. I have no problem with this really, if it has the same features as the E, but something tells me it won't. I doubt the E550 Coupe will have airmatic like the E550 sedan and so on, but lets just wait until the finished product is on the show stand and at your local respective dealer. Either wait I can't wait to see what MB has cooked up. You don't get a new E and CLK/E-Coupe at the same time that often, it was 6 years ago last time.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Whilst driving on the autobahn today outside of Munich , a CLK or E-Klasse cabrio passed and it looks as if they are aiming right at the heart of the 3er Cabrio because the car definetly had a folding hardtop , disguised as a soft-top but the larger rear screen was definetly showcasing a hardtop.

oh look! autobild agrees.

The M3 already beats the CLK63 cabrio by light years in performance. So I hope that MB have hired some wizards to keep the weight and flex down.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I really, really hope that the new E/E-Coupe usher in the era or direct-injection for MB gasoline engines. The 5.5L V8 in particular would be great at 428hp.

E63 and CLK63 getting only 480hp??? That can't be right at all.

That CAR magazine rendering looks very familiar, has it been posted before? :eusa_thin
