Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

In CLK trim its possible..

Wouldn't make sense if they are naming the car E-class coupe, especially since the CLK63 has 500hp+.

Edit:

Just made a check and the current CLK63 has 475hp so 481 is fully plausible except that the E-class will still be a more serious car.

It feels like MB are walking forward in a backwards manner.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Well it might come down to the chassis being used. If they really are going for an E-Coupe based on the C-Class chassis then 480hp might be close to the limit. This is one reason why I'm not so sold on them changing it to an E-Class coupe. For instance the E Sedan will no doubt have Airmatic as an option (standard on the E550/500), but the C-Class based "E-Coupe" most certainly won't.

This kinda makes me want to say that they should have just left it a CLK, which is a mix of E and C.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

I really like the idea of MB changing the names this way. There are just too many letters, too many models, everybody not really interested in cars is completely lost now.

So, back to the basics: C, E, S and SL... The rest doesn't matter anyway :D
They also should do something with their SUVs, it's a bit complex with G, ML, GL, GLK and R... Too many models in fact.

As far as the E-Coupe is concerned: well, I couldn't care less if it's based on the C-Class. If it has the good size and finish, it's okay. The E-Class will anyway share a huge lot with the C, so these platforms won't be as different as they used to be. So the E-Coupe will only tend a bit more towards C-Class, big deal...
Concerning the Airmatic argument... Well the CL doesn't get it either contrary to the S-Class, and it's not a problem: a Coupe is more sporty, so a lighter and more sporty-oriented steel suspensions is just logical.

I appreciate the fact that the E-Coupe has a different interior from both C and E (which is not the case at Audi or BMW), so in fact nobody will know it's more C than E!

I like this new name politic. Clearer, simpler, easier. All the better!:usa7uh:

Well actually the CL wouldn't need Airmatic, it has something much better, ABC. Airmatic would be a downgrade for the CL. However for 2009 the CL550/500 does have airmatic when equipped with 4Matic since 4Matic and ABC can't be combined.

The problem with calling a C-Class based coupe and E-Class coupe is that it will no doubt miss out on some of the true E-Class features. May not be a big deal, but the conflict is there. Anwyay, long as it looks/feels/drives the part I really don't care what they call it either, but there is no accounting for Joe Buyer.

Actually, the current CLK 63 has 481 hp so they are claiming it stays the same. (475 hp is probably the figure with the US hp conversion rate).

It resembles the new E interior, but isn't the same and doesn't look like the C interior... I love that fact as well...

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

The differences in the interior between the E and E Coupe will be only marginal like they should to justify the name "E-Class Coupe". :usa7uh:

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Well if we trust the spy-pics and the Concept Fascination (showing the 100% correct coupe interior), the E Coupe will be noticeably less luxurious but more sporty than the E-Class, and noticeably different than the C-Class. While still more C than E from what I could see in the spy pics...

However, the C-Class is smaller, and more agile than the heavier E-Class, so the choice of making it on the C platform makes sense IMO. Calling it E-Class allows to create a smaller C Coupe after it, and of course to ask more from the E-Coupe...

E sedan/estate could be more luxurious than the E Coupe but I guess we'll have to wait for the official pics to properly judge. The interior design however is much closer to the E-Class than the C-Class.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

The design in itself is closer to the E-Class, you're right (that's a good thing because the dash layout is one of the very few C-Class weakpoint imo). However, the interior treatment is closer to the C-Class: not so much wood, few alu-inserts, C-Class type armrest...

It is, from what I can see, far from being as "rich" as the E, but is noticeably better than the C-Class. So a mix of the two, and overall a very nice interior. I'm still not sold on this big second cover for the GPS screen however...

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

^^ Man that E interior is really gonna be nice. Look at that big slab of wood and the alu round the airvents as well. All in all it looks promising

Wow! That's the interior of the W212? Looks nice. Don't know about all that black plastic trim though.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

^^ The Concept FASCINATION shows us the interior of the E-Coupe, not the W212.

The W212 E-Class will have this interior below (no better pics, it's still quite camoed):

Oh yeah, it`s got all the same shapes and the CLK-E-Class coupe interior.

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

It makes sense that the next CLK...er.. E coupe be in more in line as a competitor to the 6 series and not the 3 series coupe.

My number one question is whether or not this car is based off of the E class or off of the C? Does anyone know?

Re: Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Can we trust in that engine specs? The numbers seem to be quite impressive. Are they supossed to use twin-turbos?.

Nothing is official until you see a "official" press release from Mercedes-Benz.
