G-Class [Spyshots] 2018 Mercedes G-Class

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, colloquially known as the G-Wagon or G-Wagen (as an abbreviation of Geländewagen), is a four-wheel drive luxury SUV manufactured by Magna Steyr (formerly Steyr-Daimler-Puch) in Graz, Styria, Austria, and sold by Mercedes-Benz. Originally developed as a military off-roader, later more luxurious models were added to the line. In certain markets, it was sold under the Puch name as Puch G until 2000.

Slated to make its debut in the second half of 2017 as a 2018 model, the second-generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class made its spy photo debut only yesterday. Now, though, the carparazzi snapped the interior.
The featured photograph comes courtesy of Mercedes-Fans and, as you can tell, it’s a half-assembled dash. How can this be the dashboard of the second-generation G-Class? It’s rather simple, to be utterly and brutally honest. Just look at the chunky grab handle on the passenger’s side of the dash.

Look closer and you’ll spot a display bang in the middle of the instrument cluster, which is flanked by two analog gauges for the speedo and tacho. More than that, it’s plain to see that the gauges differ in design from those that adorn the current Gelandewagen.

To the right of the instrument cluster, we have a large infotainment system inspired by that of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and E-Class. The 12.3-inch diagonal display will be solely available with Comand online, a system that boasts with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, hard-drive 3D satellite navigation, wireless charging for your Qi-enabled mobile phone, various apps, Wi-Fi, and Internet surfing when the vehicle is stationary.

The final detail that caught our attention is represented by the air vents in the center console for the rear occupants. “That’s neat, but what happened to the dash-mounted switches for the diff locks?” If my intuition is correct, the switches have been moved next to the Comand Controller on the front of the central armrest.

For the W464, the peeps at Mercedes-Benz have a lot more on the menu than just a nicer interior. For starters, it will be wider than the W463. More than that, it may come with pneumatic suspension and a 48 volt electrical system, it will shed up to 400 kilograms (882 pounds) over the current generation, and it is expected to be available with the new generation on inline six engines developed by Mercedes-Benz. Of course, higer-end models will be motivated by the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 developed by Mercedes-AMG.

Up to now, the 2018 Mercedes-Benz G-Class shows great promise in the eyes of its established fanbase.
