Unsurprisingly the coupe has a lot more attractive side profile.

What's the used platform ? C class or E class ?

AFAIK it's still C-Class.

I believe it's a the C-class as well since there's already a coupe based on the E-class called the CLS.

You're wrong, it's based on the C platform, with exterior looks and name of the E, just like the CLK models.

You're wrong, it's based on the C platform, with exterior looks and name of the E, just like the CLK models.

If so I will keep the SL a little longer... bring out a true E class hardtop cabrio and I would be tempted. On a C platform, no way!

Doing it on the C platform but calling it an E gives MB the opportunity to make a good profit on this car. The margins will be bigger because they can sell it at E prices but with C components.

MB already charges E class type prices for the CLK. So that is nothing new regardless of the name.

Bingo. Mercedes has already done this for years and they've made plenty of money already. A mere name change is really a technicality at this point.

Very correct. Secondly the car would have a more glamorous interior if it was based on the E-class. Somewhat like the CLS which a superior interior design to the E. From what I have seen the new CLK interior is just slightly more glamorous than the C. Nothing special at all.

That's very true Luw. I do agree the interior looks good, but it's nothing special really.
I wonder what happens when BMW comes with the new 6er. That interior will be on the level of the 7er, and the car will be priced like a (very) expensive 5er...Mercedes has to make sure the prices of the new E-coupé are not on the high side....but that will look weird because of the name.

The point basicly: E-class coupé sounds as expensive as 6er, but even CLS, which is really based on the E platform (with an interior to match that), is at least 13k cheaper than a comparable 6er...so E-coupé should be even cheaper than that....

Imagine an E500 costing 80k. CLS will then be like 90/95k and E-coupé like 70k???? Doesn't that sound weird? Or will CLS and E-coupé both be 95k??? Then the interior of the E-coupé and technical gadgets of E-coupé will not be the same as the higher end E-class based CLS???

^6er is not the competition to either CLK or CLS
Its about as unfair as comparing a 6er to a CL

6er is in between CLS and CL, but prices are definetely more towards CLS. CL is in another league. CL is based on the S class, 6er and CLS respectively 5er and E-class.

That imo all changes now they start calling the new CLK the E-class coupé. The average Joe will never know it's really a C-class with lipstick.

^its simple the CLK is the 3er coupe competition..
and everyone knows that..
no matter what they call it
CLS is a 4 door coupe, BMW doesent have one..so no match there
And the CL is just a 2 door S..
Simple
Its the 6er wich is out of place.. wierd pricing...
I guess they will take it more up market next time closer to the CL

C oupe vs 3er coupe.

E coupe or CLK vs 6er.

CL vs upcoming 8er "CS"
