A4/S4/RS4 [Spyshots] Audi A4 (B9) Spy Pics & Info

The Audi A4 is a line of luxury compact executive cars produced by Audi. Production: 1994-2025. Predecessor: Audi 80. Successor: Audi A5 (B10).
LOL, do people really believe these kind of statements?
No, I believe in my own opinion. I've driven the germans in this segment and its difficult to say which one is the best. They are all great IMO. With that said, its not a A4 I would pick and drive back to my home.

^The S4 has yet to be beaten as far as I am aware and this is against much newer competition, so maybe there's some truth in that statement.

Also the drop of 200lbs being suggested for the B9 should make a significant difference to how it will behave on the road, all promising signs I feel.

Yes but the new F30 has yet to be beaten also bar the 335i. And the S4s dominance will likely soon end with the rumored M335i

Bla bla. Still is the best in the class.
Are you bloody kidding me? And not only you, but also Bob who liked your post...

I talked about parts being the same, not "blah blah" arguments. What is the purpose of your post? And above all, what does the fact that the suspension components are carried over from the B6 to the B8, with the opinion that it may be the best in class? What does a shared suspension part have to do with the A4's value for money?

Oh God...

Everyone has his own opinion, but there are some claims people sometimes do that are complete non sense. If I say the Citroen C4 is the best in class it is my own opinion, but it is no where close to reality.

The recently-improved Audi A4 has barely hit dealers and already rumors around its replacement are circulating. We’ve caught a detailed report and have paired that intel with what we already know. As with any of our intel reports, this is all future-looking and as such may be rumor. We do our best to qualify what we hear or what we read, but please know that this is subject to change either due to incorrect intel or a change in direction by Audi management even if the intel was correct at the time of acquisition.
Following the usual model cycle, we expect this car will bow at a European auto show in 2014. In CAR Magazine, the often reliable Georg Kacher revealed what he has heard about the B9, including that it will like like a “baby A6/junior A8″. That sounds conservative, but movement to Audi’s next-generation longitudinal architecture dubbed MLB-evo means that there are significant changes under the skin and namely to save weight.

About a year ago we were invited behind closed doors at Audi’s lightweight development center in Neckarsulm to take a look at future technologies and were surprised when a mostly shrouded chassis was shown to us and confirmed as an early example of MLB-evo. Experimenting with many light weight materials such as carbon fiber and magnesium, Audi intends to lighten its next-generation offerings substantially. Engineers in Neckarsulm confirmed that every millimeter of a car’s chassis is being evaluated for structural needs and materials specifically matching those qualities are used in each space thanks to new joining technologies being pioneered by Audi. You can’t just weld carbon fiber or magnesium to aluminum or steal. This approved photo (above) shows exactly what they mean. As you can see, the structure almost looks like a patchwork of materials.
Kacher suggests Audi will launch a new plug-in hybrid drivetrain with the new B9 A4. A new e-quattro system is also expected – one that trades its mechanical differentials and drive shafts and substitutes them for an electrically driven rear axle delivering 136 hp. Audi has shown experimental versions of this in an A5 prototype. It offers greater drive flexibility and also greater efficiency. It is also expected to provide up to 20 miles of full-electric mobility at sub Autobahn speeds.
As for performance versions, rumors we’re hearing suggest these will also see gains. In addition to the lighter chassis, expect a new S4 to go up in horsepower. We’re hearing a drivetrain rumor about the 3.0 TFSI as over 350 hp, and we’re wondering if this is done through augmentation of the current supercharged version or perhaps an Audi tuned take on the 3.0 Biturbo expected to launch in the upcoming MLB-based Porsche Macan crossover.
How about RS 4? We’re nearly certain that the high-rev 4.2 FSI will be done after this generation. Emissions laws will likely work in the favor of those hoping for turbos. So if the S4 goes 3.0 TFSI, we’re hoping the next-generation RS 4 (and RS 5) make use of the 4.0 TFSI biturbo used in the S6, S7 and S8.
As for quattro in S and RS offerings, it remains unclear whether differentials and driveshafts will remain or whether electrically driven rear wheels will manage the tail end with these higher performance engines. Still, it is interesting to consider as this would suggest greater flexibility in rear-wheel power delivery.

^If you hadn't told me this was a PS of the B9 I wouldn't have known, so I hope Audi don't copy the above and bring something bang upto date.

Base model body specifications:
1410kg (-90kg, was 1505kg)
80% Steel
20% Aluminum and plastics

Multitronic transmission is discontinued (and rightfully so)

Engines:
1.4L I4 with 143ps, FWD only, 6 speed manual or 7 speed DSG
2L I4 with 177ps, FWD only, 6 speed manual or 7 speed DSG
2L I4 with 225ps, 350NM, 6 speed manual
3L V6 Turbo (Autobild reports Turbo, but it might be a typo, if not then the old 3L SC V6 will be replaced by this new 3L Turbo V6) with 340ps, 8 speed S-Tronic, 4WD

Diesels:
2L I4 Turbo in three variants:
122ps, 150ps, 197ps

3L V6 Turbo
218ps, 272ps & 600NM, 4WD

That 340 ps A4 sounds very nice.

If this are the looks of the new A4 (which is unlikely given the low accuracy of AB chops when regarding to Audis), then BMW is having an easy win with its F30 3er. What has been shown recently about the W205 C-Class isn´t too promising neither.

It wont look like that though,it just a terrible mash done by autobild. They have been very accurate at times, but there are no mules or nothing concrete to go by.

It will be interesting to see what new technology Audi introduce in the A4. If it improves much over the current A4 then I reckon the F30 3 series will be in for hard times because the B8 A4 isn't exactly rolling over when pitted against the F30.

I dont think the new A4 is getting much better than current A4. These cars are already extremly well made with little flaws. Today its difficult to make a car much better than the old. The new 3-series isn't a superior car compare to previous 3-series.

I understand what you're saying Just Me, improvements are incremental these days, that's how good cars have become, but the new 3 series has been getting much more favourable reviews about its ride quality, though it's still not class leading. That in itself is a worthwhile improvement.

As I see and understand, theres plenty of room for Audi to improve the A4.

BMW altered what they wanted from the 3 series which is why it's not quite the success of past generations but IMO its all the better car for it, Audi for increasingly shifting more towards a sportier balance and increased weight lose is key, in the past BMW have always been the lighter of the two but no longer and when you still have an ageing B8 S4 being pick over a bang up to date 335i then you know that it's only a matter of time before it loses its crown either to Audi or Merc.

Maybe a matter of time, but our lives will be too short to witness this.

I still see the upcoming M335i to be the real competition with S4. 335i is just another 3-series with a different engine. There are much more differences between a S4 and standard A4, to name two things, a proper sport diff and driving dynamics.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
