GLE [Spyshots] 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class (designated with the "ML" nomenclature), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz since 1997. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS, the latter with which it shares platforms.
Ir seems MB is ditching the dropping line. On this MLC looks straighter, and the Autobild renders of the W213 E-Class habe traditional looking shoulder line.

Yeah. Suspect it may follow MB's SUV design language, where it's usually a bit straighter. :)

Mercedes-Benz MLC-Class confirmed for Australia in 2016

There will be pent-up demand for the all-new Mercedes-Benz MLC-Class when the swoopy large SUV arrives in Australian showrooms in 2016, according to one of the brand’s leading executives.

Mercedes-Benz Australia corporate communications senior manager David McCarthy admitted the production version of the Concept Coupe SUV (pictured above) answered calls from customers for a BMW X6-style vehicle from the three-pointed star brand.

“Obviously a vehicle that is in their mind is the X6,” McCarthy started.

“The X6 (pictured below) is a vehicle that I never personally understood initially – I do now. People want to be individual, they like the high riding position, they want four passengers, they don’t want five passengers, they want some luggage space and they want it to be dynamic.

“If you said to someone 10 years ago a vehicle like that is going to exist they’d laugh at you, but it’s been successful for BMW. Our take on it is going to be a little bit different, but I think ours will be successful as well.”

McCarthy said Mercedes-Benz Australia CEO Horst von Sanden had seen the ML-based MLC-Class production car in the flesh and described it as a “ripper” that was “very close” to the concept.

The public relations boss denied the MLC – which will become the local division’s sixth SUV, joining the GLA, GLK, ML, GL and G models – was SUV overkill, insisting it would find a market in Australia.

“That question of too many models… We bring them, our job is to sell them. If we don’t think we can sell them we don’t bring them, and that car will be coming here,” McCarthy said.

Despite its GLA looks, the Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe SUV will be significantly larger, expected to measure at least five metres from nose to tail and two metres wide.

The MLC production car will sit above the ML in Benz’s global line-up from 2015, mirroring BMW’s strategy with its X5 and X6 models.

The Mercedes-Benz Concept Coupe SUV will debut at next week’s Beijing auto show.

An update from the New York Auto Show. :)

The upcoming Mercedes Concept Coupe SUV is a coupe with SUV ability rather than an SUV turned into a coupe, according to Mercedes-Benz SUV boss Andreas Zygan. He points out that the car’s chief rival, the BMW X6, is the other way around and is an SUV with a coupe profile. The Concept Coupe SUV is already confirmed for production, where it is set to take the MLC name.

It's tough to deduce the overall 'stance' of the car but the rear seems to suggest some similarities with the upcoming Tesla Model X

Thanks Eni.

Well that's what it should look like.

I really dislike the proportions of this thing.

The car is huge. It's eg. as long as E71 X6 but a bit more than 2" wider and more than 2" higher. I guess the huge wheels (22") on the concept car and the tinted shallow greenhouse contribute to quite sleek & coupeish appearance. I wonder how the car will look with standard 19" or 20" wheels and with transparent greenhouse and with production bumpers, light clusters & tail gate. My bet is it will look more awkward than X6 F16. But still good enough to attract tons of customers. :-)

It's HUGE!

Proportions wise that sounds better than E71 I think.
What do you think compared to the new X6? Roughly the same?

BTW, I am starting to warm up to this car. It will have massive presence on the road. Big and imposing, yet dynamic in appearance..
