Quattroporte [Official] Maserati Quattroporte (VI)

The Maserati Quattroporte is a four-door full-size luxury sedan produced by Maserati. The name translated from Italian means "four doors".
"new" Quattroporte is based on a Chrysler 300.. :poop:
it has an 8 years old chassis, I cannot belive it (n)

If it's based on the 300C then it's way more than 8yo... more like 17-18yo as the 300C is based on the W210 E-Class which came 1995 :)
Even tho they say it's based on the W211(which if true it means it's 10yo already)

PS: I really hope that's not the case with the Maser...

You do realize that cars that share a platform, don't have to look alike? That pic proves nothing. Their sizes are more similar than dissimilar.

I do know that. I am not talking about the shape but about the proportions and the size. It is not because it has 300C/Thema side mirrors it is based on it, by the way that is the only common exterior part that is not from Maserati. But that is nothing new, the GranTurismo also has Alfa 159 side mirrors.

The 300C/Thema is a front-engined car with rear-wheel drive, not like the A6, but like the 5 Series. The Maserati however is a mid-engined car, like the Ferrari F12, with transaxle gearbox and rear-wheel drive. I do not see any possibility in modifying a chassis to such extent, pushing the engine further back and putting the gearbox over the other side, rearwards. Well of course that is possible, but that would increase costs, and not diminish them. One example is the M3 GT2. Unlike the M3 GT4 is has transaxle gearbox and mid-front engine. But you know its is a race car and how much it costs. And if the Maserati Ghilbi will also get the same classical Maserati layout (FMR for rear biased weight distribution) then also that will not be based on the Chrysler/Lancia.

The old car is a classic now, thats the first thing. Looks much better proportioned than the new car.

That is a good point, and I hope you're right because this car is lost if they used a 15 year old W210 E-Class hand me downs as a base point. However I suspect modifying the chassis for a front-mid engine layout (not a true mid-engine as you state) is still cheaper than a from scratch new chassis. Just a guess. Only the front structure would need to be changed so the engine can sit fully behind the front axle line. Still though there are too many Chrysler interior pieces, warmed over with better graphics/materials etc. That is what worries me.

No, the chassis is not new from scratch. It is said to be based on the current/previous one and strechend for more rear legg room. Now we can just wait for press release.
Maserati will never say how much "hardware" comes from Chrysler. But once revealed I'll check both the Lancia and the Maserati out.

Before giving final judgment the car must be seen IRL. When the QP (V) came in 2004 the press pics were not that flatering either.
I still think Maserati did a good job. They had the task to replace the worlds best looking sedan. We can clearly see it is an evolution, and not a revolution, but in good measures. Not a like the Golf or Audi.

We'll see because right now I don't buy it.

To all those who thinks the new car is some cheap design rip off, what is Maserati suppose to do when other companies use the Quattroporte as their inspiration to design their cars? When it is time for Maserati to launch the replacement, people are accusing them for copying from those who copied Maserati in the first place?

I agree and understand almost completely, indeed lots of asian cars have copied Maserati, BUT still the new tail lights/trunk look like Infiniti, Hyundai, etc while the previous one where much unique compared to what's on today's market. I can't figure out why they dropped that design and joined the generic club.
With all these LED technology I'll love to see some tail lights inspired by the 3200 GT:
