A few months ago, there was some innuendo pertaining to VAGs' considerations regarding the furnishing of its' upcoming PPE large car BEV plaform to outside manufacturers. Apparently, VAG has been approached by a number of unnamed manufacturers displaying interest in sourcing the PPE. It was speculated that Maserati may have been among them, along with McLaren, FoMoCos' Lincoln division among others. In addition, Maserati and Audi were very close to sealing an extensive cooperation deal some 16-17 years ago.

Rimac is also remaining relatively tight-lipped, declining to name manufacturers (other than VAG, Hyundai/KIA/Genesis and Automobili Pininfarina) with whom the company is currently cooperating. JLRs' as well as Bosch/Bentelers' BEV platforms may (or may not) also be under consideration.

Interesting times indeed, although I wouldn't cite a business discussion from 16-17 years ago has being relevant. Fiat was a standalone company back then and Maserati had a lot more control over their individual business unlike now.

I'd be more inclined to give the PPE rumor some thought if this car wasn't using a modular platform. Let's hope that modular platform doesn't end up being the car's undoing.

Oh, my Audi/Maserati "connection" reference was merely citing an interesting piece of automotive history. Relevance today ? You're correct. Probably none.
