I was told facelifted 5er will also get them - but positioned a bit more diagonally, not so horizontally like on the other BMW models.

Yannis, facelift are usually minor exterior and interioe changes - unless its Audi A4 or some Japanese / Korean car.

Seriously: both bumpers are changes - differently shaped, and partially colored. Grill sightly is different. Headlights got CELIS LED rings (aka "angel eyes"), rear lights got different graphics and CELIS LED strips (aka "neon tubes"). The xDrive + DSC will be upgraded, new more powerful engines, different chasis setup. But the biggest changes will occure in the cabin: much better materials + fit & finish, more wood / alu trims.

Audi A4? What is that? Oh now i remember.... you are talking about the Europe's best selling luxury sedan for last year.

Seriously a lot of people would agree with me that there should be more changes to X3. Both interior (better quality materials) and exterior (less strange lights/grille).

BMW is addressing the complaints about the interior, but exterior is not the issue (like it was at 7er).

The customers do not mind about the exterior styling. Actually they like it. The only issue were the non-painted bumpers in the US, but that was already addressed with MY 2005.

X3 was the best selling SUV in Germany in 2005. BMW sold almost 111,000 (+20%) units of X3 worldwide in 2005.

I wouldn't call the X3 beatiful (it's far from that) but it's not as ugly as some suggest. In fact i wouldn't mind owing one but new 3 series is more beatiful and has better perceived quality so for that kind of money i would take E90 instead.

I like the new tail lights, brings it in line with the new 3er, as well as the angle lights!

Looks like BMW released cost cutting for quality was a bad idea, way before MB did!

Same as I've already told you.

The Autobild photoshop is spot on: Only minor changes not a drastic overhaul in keeping with the success and popularity of the X3 which has sent rivals to the drawing boards with their upcoming Q5 (Audi) and MLK (Mercedes-Benz ) and with the upcoming Land Rover Freelander going up in scale BMW are preparing for the onslaught that is coming along with new engines and better materials in the cockpit some changes underneath especially to refinement and overall ride will be updated .
Aswell as following the X5 the X3 will also gain an Si model at about this time next year. With the 335i gaining the turbo engine first and then the (european) X5 second further products will receive the engine, including the 5er and the X3 Si.

And I'm very disappointed in WCF.

The X3 in the pic is current (non-facelifted) X3 with M package exterior trim which is standard in US market from MY 2005, and optional elsewhere.

The facelifted X3 will look exactly like this:



New front & rear bumpers, new rear lights graphics (with CELIS LED strips), headlights with CELIS LED rings, new grill. New engines, new steering & susspension settings. Better materials in the cabin + more wood / alu trims.
