911 (991) Porsche 911 (991.2) Facelift - Spy Pics & Info

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car, produced from September 2011 to December 2019. It was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997.
So apparently I missed some pretty important stuff in that Autobild article. I got this from Rennlist

- increase of 20bhp from the current models, 500Nm torque available from 1700 rpm with a redline of 7500 rpm;
- an Overboost button, which lasts for 120 seconds cuts the 0-100km/h by 0,2s to 4,3s for the Carrera and 4,0s for the Carrera S
- PASM can lower the car up to 20mm in Sport Plus
- new steering wheel button has an Individual mode to save the driver preferences
- Chrono Plus Package gets all-wheel steering from the Turbo
- front lift function, up to 50mm
- PCM has multi-touch

The facelifted Porsche 911 Targa has been spied wearing minimal disguise.

Looking instantly recognizable, the facelifted variant has a new front bumper and modestly revised headlights. The styling changes are less noticeable out back but include new air vents and modified taillights.

Despite the deja vu design, the 911 is expected to feature a new turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that develops 370 PS (272 kW) in the base model and 420 PS (309 kW) in the S variant.

The facelifted Porsche 911 lineup is expected to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, so stay tuned for full details.

So the GTS will remain NA and wears a central exhaust like the GT3. I guess central exhaust have become a design designation for NA engines.

Sounds like there will definitely be some lag in the new turbo engines otherwise Porsche wouldn't have gone through the trouble of having the Sport Response Button.

^Yes, I don't get SRB either - but it sounds a lot like it uses a jumpy throttle mapping to hide lag, which doesn't sound too appetizing.

Also read somewhere it uses BMW style synthesized sound, not sure how true.

I'm thinking this "spikey" turbo setup is a stopgap until Porsche goes with an electric turbo system with the 992. Audi demoed Honeywell's electric turbo system back in 2014. The biggest hurdle for an electric turbo is a required 42+ volt system. Cars today only use 12 volt systems by comparison. The 992 will make that jump to 42+ volts.

The article on that electric turbo system is worth the read if anyone is interested.

BMW isn't the only one... The entire sound thing is blasphemy.

If I understood correctly, the GTS is getting an updated version of the NA 3.8. A few sentences down the articles says that they will continue with their existing engines. A bit confusing if you ask me. Four wheel steering a active aero are great additions. It seems that there is no way of escaping lag and muffled engine sounds due to turbocharging. I really hope that porsche does't resort to synthesized engine sound pipped into the stereo speaker.

Are the GTS production numbers limited? Because if they are not going to be, I have a feeling that the GTS will sell very well.

The only Porsches that are truly limited are the numbered ones like GT2 RS (500), GT3 RS 4.0 (600), the 50th edition (1963), 997 Speedster (356), 918 (918) etc. The rest including GT3, GT3 RS are not truly limited. They just make a variable number based on production window/capacity/demand etc.

This car is such a safe bet. The car I would recomend to anyone with enough money. Timeless design.
