^ Yes. Current MB Passion rumors indicate the facelift may be revealed late this year, and arrive at the dealerships in early 2016. This applies to Germany, but the plan for the USA may be bit similar. :)

Some info about the new model year, translated from MB Passion. The new tow hook might only apply to the Euro versions. :)

Change year 2015/1 for the GL X166
by Markus Jordan | MB Passion | April 6, 2015

For the Mercedes-Benz GL the order release for the new year 2015/1 (X166) is on April 7, 2015.
The year 2015/1 (order code 806) for the Mercedes-Benz GL (X166) starts on April 7, 2015 where little will change. A new option is the electric tow hitch, from the new GLE: with electrically pivoting ball head and ESP trailer stabilization for a surcharge of € 1,142.40. It can be controlled with a switch shown below. Other options for the type X166 and even the basic pricing remain unchanged.

GLS can probably be ordered for the first time in December 2015

With regard to the renaming of the GL to GLS you have to still wait until 2016. Probably in December 2015 the "GLS" can be ordered for the first time, and the model will be supplied with new technology and LED headlights in the 1st quarter of 2016 for the first time.

This is from the most current dealer ordering guide. As you can see, the GL name remains for another model year.

Isn't the Dealer Order Guide updated/revised about every 60 days for two or three 60 day cycles?

If a MMC/facelift was happening, an ordering guide would not have been issued with outdated data. They'd just hold from releasing the ordering guide. Case in point, the GLE. Dealers do not yet have the DOG for the 2016 GLE. Furthermore, MBUSA has opened the order bank for the 2016 GL and no changes are listed in Netstar.

MB Passion still thinks the GLS might be introduced to the market in December, with deliveries following in early 2016. Whether it will premiere in Frankurt is uncertain. Could also be celebrating its debut at another auto show in the fall. :)

@Wolfgang MB Passion's time frame seems to be on point. At lease based on what I've heard through the grapevine. The 2016 is going to be a relatively short model year for the GL (~6 to 7 months or so) until the GLS is released in Q1 of next year.
