CLK-Class [Spyshots] Mercedes E-Class Coupe & Cabrio - C207 (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

The Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class is a series of mid-size or entry-level luxury coupés and convertibles produced by Mercedes-Benz between 1996 and 2010. Although its design and styling was derived from the E-Class, the mechanical underpinnings were based on the smaller C-Class, and was positioned between the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class and CL-Class.

The current Mercedes-Benz CLK is something of an enigma - built around the C-Class platform, styled like the E-Class, and priced in between the two, the car sits in its own unique segment and has no direct competition from its German rivals. Its sales history has been a strong success, especially in the U.S., but reports are surfacing that the German carmaker is planning to end the CLK name and instead brand its successor as an ‘E-Class’ Coupe and Convertible.

In the press release for the new ConceptFASCINATION Mercedes-Benz states that its designers are working on a ‘future E-Class Coupe.’ This goes towards explaining why Mercedes would drop such an important nameplate - the main reason is that the car’s successor will be based on the same platform that will underpin the next-generation E-Class due next year.

Meanwhile, near production-ready test mules for the E-Class Coupe and Cabrio have been spotted near Mercedes headquarters in Germany and now these latest renderings give us a clue as to what the final car will look like. As expected, the car draws heavily from the recent ConceptFASCINATION, while in keeping with its more upmarket positioning a new folding metal roof will come standard with the Cabrio.

Powertrains should include the new 272hp (203kW) 3.5L V6 engine as well as Mercedes’ 5.5L V8 for the E500 Coupe flagship. An even more powerful AMG version is guaranteed; sporting a 481hp (359kW) version of the hand built 6.2L V8 engine. The E-Class Coupe will be offered with optional 4Matic AWD and could possibly come with a new mild-hybrid option further down the track.

Stunning, nice up-to-date mercedes car! Looking forward to the release of this car and possibly a black series version, too early to tell?

If the lights on the bumper were positioned close to the side rather than in the middle, it would look better IMO:

WOW!! Very very good chops, very acurate, I only hesitate about the greenhouse of he coupe, I think the rear part is going to be more square-ish.

re: MercedesE-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

MB is really moving upmarket,if this is indeed an E-class coupe then this will go head to head with upcoming 6er,question is what is gonna compete with 3er and A5?

re: MercedesE-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Marcus will be wanting one of these I am guessing ;)

re: MercedesE-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

so they are repositioning themselves face to face with BMW?
1=A
3=C
3er coupe=possible C coupe?
5=E
6=E class coupe
7=S
8=CL

the CLK has always benefitted from being between model lines, being able to compete with 3ers and their equivalents at the lower end, and competing with 6ers and their equivalents at the upper end, i don't think it's time for more models, what does that leave the CLS? you would have an E, E coupe, E cabrio and E 4 door coupe?

re: MercedesE-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Not only Marcus... the SL may have just enough miles on it to consider this one...LOL

Oh! So you need room for more then just one lady??? You go get em. :banana:

The 6-series is priced in 7-series/S-class terriroty. This 'CLE' will not be priced like that IMO.

re: MercedesE-Class Coupe & Cabrio (Spy pics & info) - Formerly CLK Model Line

Nah I want an SL or CLS or a CL after the CLK.

Anyway why do we have a seperate thread for this? This is just more speculation....nothing official.
