S-Class W222 [Spyshots] Mercedes-Benz 2014 W222 S-Class (Spy pics & info)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).

That is not anyway the next S-Class, if it is then Mercedes has failed. That is a poor CLS derived mess of a chop.

I think we might be underestimating the potential authenticity of these Autobild renderings.... But I guess we'll see.

Maybe, but out of all the Photos they got right of new Mercedes I don't remember a single one being a chop of a current car. They were always done from a clean sheet and with Huck of course, and since Huck left who knows maybe he took his source(s) with him...?
For me though, I wouldn't put any of my money on this chop it's of a CLS pictured above and ques from the F700. If Mercedes wanted a 4-door coupe as large as the CLS they would create a new segment for it not put those design features in the new S.

I don't really olike that chop... However AB's renderings proved extremely close to the real deal, be it for Mercedes (see the CLS) or for Audi (see the A8)...

That said, this isn't Huckfeldt any more since he seems retired, so... I hope it's not accurate.

The double sides on the side are directly taken from the F800, so I guess they're here to stay, but I sure hope the rest will be more interesting and daring!!

Stick with this ps guys. I`d be willing to bet this one is more than 90% on the money design wise (the front lower air-inlets I believe will be a little different though). On top of that, get prepared for the most advanced car on the planet. I was just reading the print-off of the new 3.5 and 4.7 liter engines and it`s already clear that MB is well ahead of the competition with it`s version of Direct-Injection, multiple-spark, and stop-start features just to name a few.

My only hope is that the W222 S63/ S69 AMG will be fitted with the negitive-off set steel front suspension as seen on the new E63 and CLS63. As I said earlier Id also like to see 4-Matic.

The V12 should live in the S69 AMG (if it gets that name) fitted with these new technologies. 663hp sounds good. touque should be under 738lb-ft if it`s going to use the new MCT-G7 (691lb-ft) I think.

There is no reason to move away from the '65' nomenclature for the v12 amg, since not even displacement is being changed, let alone the sexual innuendo.

What i hope for the AMGs (especially the V12) is to have the last word in transmissions, not the grandfather of whatever the v8 has. Also, better shoes than the standard S550 sport package, i.e. wider rubber both front and back to put the power down.

:D

If that really is it, the side crease are just plain wrong, the E was enough, then the CLS (which makes them work in some colors), but not on the S-Class. Oh lord here we go again.

How it works with Autobild is that the first generated image stems from a chosen design but remains in progress.

The second stage is the chosen design with additional changes.

The third stage is the final design before production.

The fourth stage is the final car rendered a few months before the launch.

Sometimes manufacturers get really desperate and send final design photographs in which the rendering artist manipulates to disguise where they came from ie design studio.

I think you are at second stage.

Really? Mercedes has lagged in engine tech for some years, so I would be surprised to see them leapfrog the competition when BMW and Audi are building some damn impressive engines. I'm yet to drive one of MB's newer generation units.

I'm telling you guys, that image will be damn close. The side lines are about definite, as these are the funky "we are outdoing all the nonsensical lines we have recently done, as to prove the S Class is still the king of what we do" weird stuff we've seen from the concepts. When the E came out, I detested the intricate lines. Even before I got around to loving the E, the CLS's was hard enough to digest that I quote myself in saying: "The CLS's character lines are so non-cohesive, they make the W212's look cohesive". Now with this W222, the character lines are making what we see on the W212 and upcoming CLS appear to be well thought out, and easy on the eyes (well, I'm mostly speaking of the E's, as I think the CLS's character line is haphazard to the fullest.... But that's me).

Every new car seems to be getting more involved in "pushing the boundaries of lines", which isn't what good design is about.... At all. Find a happy medium. I think they did with the W221, and even with the W212, which is progressive enough to push it. The CLS's side lines are just something that will never sit right enough with me, and the W222 is taking it to a different level. I call these W222 lines "Squiggle Language".

Argh. Oh well. We'll see.

Oh, and also, that grille is probably in essence, close to what we'll see on the real thing. I say that because, as we know, M-B has been making their Luxury-Grilles larger and larger again, and since the W221, then W221 F.L, then W212, they're pretty damn big. Only way to top that, is to do that huuuge thing we see on the W222. I love large Luxury confident grilles/faces, but that renderings just looks not right, proportionally or presence-wise. Hopefully that is one area they are not in line with M-B's actual design.

That one looks a lot better. Hopefully that's more like it. The lines aren't perfect, but actually IMO they're not all so terrible (considering), and I think they're more thought out than the CLS's for sure. I know M-B are wanting to try something different, as everyone is doing similar things, but fact is, on vehicles, downward/wedge lines are just the most natural, flowing, proper, and complimenting of all. They go with the shape of the actual vehicles design, as opposed to sharply contrasting it.

As for S69 mentioned earlier, I can recall the time before the 63 series was released, I've heard the 'new' twin from AMG 'will be called' 63 and 68.

In short, I would expect a S68 AMG with a new V12

I´m sorry guys but I´m completly lost with all this S69 thing. Where does this come from?

Probably no where. People are making up stuff, but doesn't it at least sound exciting? :D:banana:

Honestly, it sounds so improbable that it doesn´t thrill me at all.

New top end AMG variant of the S-Class will come with a reworked 5.5 V8 TT with 707 hp. The question is which will be the car that will debut it.
