S-Class (W222) [Spyshots] Mercedes-Benz 2014 W222 S-Class (Spy pics & info)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).

I wonder how many people who see those pictures are freaking out in thinking that the new S will use the exact same interior as the current S. :D

lucky nobody on our forum is freaking out lol...

I really hope the next S and SL is something special..

The same people who think that the new 1er that's being tested will have the interior of the old car... so quite a few sadly. I won't mention names, just check the next gen 1er thread

Georg Karcher claims the new S-Class is comming in no less than 6 variants. I guess that includes S-Class, S-Coupe, S-Cabrio, S-Class 4 door Coupe, and?.

First time I heard of S-Class 4-door coupe. Could you please write the complete article from Kacher ? He is very connected so I'm taking this seriously.

Thanks, I read the article. But, I don't think he was talking about six true different bodystyles, though. SWB and LWD saloons count as two variants. So maybe :

Saloon SWB
Saloon LWB
S-coupe
S-cabrio
S Wagon

The sixth S 4-door coupe, but honestly I find this very, very unlikely as there already is the CLS and the CLS-based Maybach 4-door coupe.

The S-derived 4-door coupe is also what he mentioned with certainty. It has been rumored for a long time. There will be, according to him, two 4-door coupes, a Maybach and an S, so that would make 3 MB 4-dr coupes!!!

Does the world truly need another 4-door coupe?

Of course we do! Imagine if someone said that back in the day...Do we need more coupes? Do we need more sedans? An additional 4-door coupe is always welcomed. Not for the S-class though, but one based on the C-class would be great.

More cars, more options and that is always a good thing.

I thought the whole point of a 4-door coupe was supposed to be that it's "special" or "premium"? I mean if what you're saying is true, then that just takes the "special" away from it now doesn't it?

IMO, it's cool if different companies develop a 4-door coupe for competition purposes, but the same company have 4 different models with a 4-door coupe just over saturates the market and makes the car pointless.

A coupe is completely different from a sedan...thus its allowed to be in many ranges. But a 4-door coupe is like a transgendered car, it doesn't know what the fruck it is. No offense to any transgendered people on here...

Well it's a niche car more so than a "special" car like the SLS is. On the other hand having more models really isn't a problem if they limit it to a CLS and maybe a C-class 4-door coupe it really should be an issue. Plus if they do it for Maybach it wouldn't matter considering it's a different brand.

I think you guys are forgetting the most important thing about the existence of a 4 door Coupe based on the W222 S-Class. Generaly, 4 dr coupes are positioned above their sedan brothers, so, the S-Class 4 dr coupe will be positioned above the S-Class sedan.

This is not the same as with BMW or Audi, where their 7 Series and A8s are not an incon as the S-Class is, and they launch of a new model never suposses the same as with the S-Class. Now, Do you imagine how good is going to be a Merc positioned above the S-Class, risky, adventurous and less classical than the S-Class?.

It´s going to be epic. Just compare the E-Class with the CLS.

Just think about what these new Maybachs are going to be like. If they truly do top the S-Class they're going to finally have something. Key factor also is going to be their styling......they can't look like Mercedes', which is why I so hoped that something could have been worked out with Aston-Martin. Imagine something drawn by them, inside and out, but with Mercedes hardware underneath. Bentley and Rolls would have a serious competitor and problem if such a vehicle caught on with the super rich.

It also causes more dilution, over-saturation, which could potentially cause for diminishing of any "premium" status of a brand.

I think that the line between 4-door Coupe and Sedan is getting so fuzzed, why can't they just create an all-in-one car?

At the same time, maybe I'm arguing just for the sake of arguing here, as I'm a huge proponent of keeping classical Sedan styling and stately proportions alive, so maybe by over-saturating the market with "4-Door Coupes" (God I hate that stupid term), we who love dominant Sedans can still have our cake. Sedan with Coupe inspirations and influence = the perfect car to me. "4-Door Coupe" is always a step below (i.e, I'm always partial to the E's over the CLS's so far, and I'm sure the next S will probably remain the same way).

I agree with this line of thought. If Mercedes is serious about making something of Maybach then yes this would be the brand to get a big 4-door coupe. Maybach needs a regular 2-door, pillarless coupe too, but it can't look like an enlarged CL. A 4-door convertible would be the hot too and a killer (regular) sedan. Stunning inside and out, and searing performance and dripping with high-tech goodies that you can't get in an S-Class.

If Mercedes is serious about Maybach then they're going to have to show up the S-Class, something risky but necessary. It won't hurt sales because not nearly everyone with a S550 can just switch to a 400K Maybach.
