SL-Class [Spyshots] 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (R231) Facelift

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (marketed as Mercedes-AMG SL since 2022) is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation "SL" derives from the German term "Sport-Leicht", which translates to "Sport Light" in English.
U mean the v8 from the c63 and amg GT? That will be something interesting if they bring that engine across the whole merc 500 lineup
Exactly that is what the articles say. But there is already a difference between the engine in the GT and C class in the AMG guise. So probably for non AMG cars there should be some aditional differences. As Serpens wrote just before me, the engine is already a couple of month in the G500, where it puts out 310 Kw. But if this engine is to replace the old AMG 5,5 V8 biturbo and non AMG 4,7 V8 biturbo, than Mercedes would make just one V8 engine, of course in many variations. That is something I find unlikely. I am not much adept in technical details, but if the new engine is a derivation of the 2,0 biturbo AMG I am not sure if it is suitable for non sports cars like the S class.

The current s500 makes 455ps, which is very close to the standard c63 and amg gt. I guess Mercedes will have difficultly trying to get what to tune the engine power to in the event that they switch the whole lineup to the new 4 litre engine

FL S500 will most likely get 4.0ltr V8 with C63 standard spec of 350kw (476PS) and 700nm (slightly more than 650NM of C63) as then it will produce more power than the current model with equal torque.

The big question mark for me will be the S600 V12 engine, when will AMG bring out a new V12 to replace this long in the tooth aged engine?

Isnt it possible to join 2 in line 6 to form a new v12 engine

^ Autocar claims the engine lineup might not change? Did you hear any rumors in Affalterbach? :)

The SL’s engine line-up is unlikely to change significantly, meaning the current range of 3.0-litre V6, 4.6-litre and 5.5-litre V8s and 6.0-litre V12 engines will carry over. The high-performance SL63 has also been spotted testing, and is understood to be keeping its current 577bhp 5.5-litre V8 engine.

Yes this is how the first Mercedes V12 engine was born in the 1991 600SEL, they took the then 3.0 24valve inline six and mated two blocks together to form the V12, which most likely could happen to the next gen V12 but it's a good question when this engine will arrive maybe 2018/2019?

I think MB needs to re-position the SL segment in order there will not be any conflict of interest within their own product.
