S-Class (W222) [Spyshots] Mercedes-Benz 2014 W222 S-Class (Spy pics & info)

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class produced from 2013 to 2020, serving as the successor to the W221 S-Class and predecessor to the W223 S-Class. The W222 has a similar design theme to the C-Class (W205) and E-Class (W213).

^Its a new platform for the S .. and it will be used for the CL and maybach level Benzes later on.
As has been the case in the past

^I know it's a new, but will it be bespoke one, or will be modular and used later on on lower Benzes, such are C and E?

^it wont be used on lower benzes
None of the reports have suggested that.

But like i said that platform will be the base of all the S class variants..and upcoming top of the range (maybach successor) models.

^ That's what The Beardy says. Which is contrary to gossips about next CL being even better, even more direct competitor, to Bentley Conti GT. That said, DB9, Conti GT and CL are indeed in the same segment, right?

I still think CL should remain as it is, big 'personal coupe', but the CLS desperately needs two-door version, to be more direct competitor to 6 Series-family; E class Coupe needs to be placed a bit more upmarket, to better compete with the upcoming 4 Series; and MB needs something to battle the upcoming 2 Series (2 door CLA maybe?). And that leaves C Class coupe kinda pointless? Which, next to the E Class coupe, it is.

The CL getting sportier would make it a more direct Conti GT competitor. The non-speed Conti is set up to be a bit sportier than the current CL550. You can actually hear the exhaust and it doesn't lean as much in corners. Please also note the CL moniker is going away, it is going back to the S-class coupe name.

The 4-series BMW is the coupe version of the 3-series, not some upmarket coupe. This will go head to head with the next-gen C-class coupe, so no issues there. With the C-class growing in size for the next-gen model, they should be the exact same size. To clarify, the 4-series is the coupe version of the 3-series, 6-series is the coupe version of the 5 (the slick 6GT is considered a coupe).

It is the E-class coupe that is seemingly pointless, but is doing just fine sales-wise where it is. Audi somewhat has the same dilemma, as the A7 does not have a true 2 door version and the A5/S5/RS5 is priced like the C-class and upcoming 4-series.

Seems highly suspect to me his claim that he was shown a preview of the next CL (S Coupe). Mercedes has yet to show previews of the sedan, I cannot see how they are letting journalists see the coupe already.

He probably just based that on those pics of the CL Coupe in camo that were shown a while ago.... It does look a lot sportier/smaller.

Guys, if any of you saw the S class photo on the cover of the newspaper?

My understanding was that the W222 is going to debut the new Modular Rear Wheel Drive Architecture, which will then also be used for the new C Class and the E when it is replaced in 3 years time.

2013 Mercedes S Class rendered

Under Wolfgang Bernhard's direction, Mercedes has reduced the whole line up to 3 platforms, the Modular Rear Wheel Drive Architecture (MRA), the Modular Front Wheel Drive Architecture and the final platform is for SUVs. This move will save Daimler billions in cost.

.Mercedes-Benz to reduce number of vehicle platforms and use more common parts

Well, more or less. The CL actually sits at 30 cm longer than the Conti but it's still give or take 100 kg lighter. The DB9 is way lighter than both of them and 10 cm shorter than the Conti.

There's something with the Conti that doesn't sit quite right with me. VAG somehow manages to make these cars so darn heavy. Is it the W12? But I guess that's what the Bentley buyers are looking for: heavy, non-aerodynamic and thirsty cars.

It's just recently with the introduction of the new Speed version that it could perhaps do some justice to the CL 65 in let's say, a 0-200 kph run. About bloody time. The Conti is AWD and a non-Speed version would have trouble pushing 15 s. A CL 65 on the other hand is almost in the 12 s region.

OK I understand, I'm looking for this render, I managed to find a picture on the internet or from the newspapers, and I wanted to find the better quality.
I dream to make it look like S class, then go straight to the salon to buy it:)
