A4/S4/RS4 [Spyshots] Audi A4 (B9) Spy Pics & Info

The Audi A4 is a line of luxury compact executive cars produced by Audi. Production: 1994-2025. Predecessor: Audi 80. Successor: Audi A5 (B10).
I'm starting to believe you that is A6, because even the wheels are from A6 (18"). A4 does not have such wheels.

PS and the tailpipes are the same as from A7 Facelift.

W201..you know this is off topic, so why did you still post it in the C-class section?
1. A4 is a direct competitor to this car.
2. There has already been some discussion about Audi people being very intrigued about C Class, in Detroit. (It was external link, couldn't find it). This article tackles a bit more into that situation. This is the only reason why I posted it in the first place. (There was no Audi vs MB discussion in my mind).
3. I started my post with 'Offtopic', so it would be easier for the viewer to skip my post if she/he is interested in reading only about the C Class.

I don't know how to send you a private message, so I had to respond here. Sorry.

Ok no problem.

Now this would be a very cool and unique design for the A4. To bad it is just dreams.

Theophilus Chin Imagines Sport quattro Concept-Inspired B9 Audi A4 Range

Had you thrown the idea past us, we’d have probably been quite skeptical. Take the Audi Sport quattro concept introduced last fall in Frankfurt, and transform it into a sedan and Avant as a basis for the upcoming B9. Had you told us before we’d seen it, we’d have likely suggested that it wouldn’t work, yet here it is thanks to Theophilus Chin… and we’re a bit more positive on the outcome.

Yes, there are some places where the design doesn’t translate as well as one might hope, but the idea is certainly interesting. The Sport quattro concept shows off some very aggressive design work that goes well beyond the more conservative family design we’re acclimated to seeing on an Audi sedan or Avant. Such aggression is usually reserved for cars like the A7, TT or R8 and perhaps A5. We shouldn’t forget though that Audi is the brand from which downright otherworldly sedans have come – cars like the C3 100 or the C5 A6.

In as much, Chin has applied that shape to both a four-door and an Avant and the results are fairly pleasing. While the C-pillar never was an Audi design cue beyond 80s era coupes, the rest seems like something that’s a bit of a mix between an alluring Maserati sedan, yet with a very distinctly Audi feel. Could that be where Audi wants to go as it changes its design leadership?

What we do know about the B9 is that it likely won’t be so radical. Also, it won’t be a knock off of the Sport quattro as that car may yet see production and it will be based on the MLB-evo footprint of the A6 and A7 based on what industry rumors have suggested. Even still, we saw these images and figured they’d be a great basis on which to start a discussion of where Audi design is going.

Intel: More B9 3.0-liter Biturbo Rumors via Car & Driver

“Sadly”… that’s how Car & Driver describes Audi’s upcoming replacement of the venerable high-rev 4.2 FSI in the RS 4 Avant and RS 5 with a new 3.0-liter turbocharged V6. Okay, so it may be a sad day for mainstream car enthusiasts with dreams of displacement, but the move seems a solid one for forced-induction focused Audi enthusiasts and also for those looking to see these cars minimize CO2 emissions.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen rumors of a new biturbo V6 and there’s even one already in production in the Porsche Macan, but Car & Driver has weighed in with his own line of intel and we wanted to pass along key points to our readers.

In his piece, Meiners suggests Audi will fit a pair of turbos to essentially the same block as the current 3.0 TFSI used in the S4 and S5 (and also many others) and fix power above the 430 bhp level of the chief rival BMW M3 and M4 models. He’s also not sure if the engine will come to the USA.

What Do We Think (and Hear)?First, let’s clear one thing up. That this new engine will come to the USA seems a foregone conclusion. The RS 5 is a solid addition to the North American lineup and we don’t see that changing in the B9 generation.

A few months ago we reported that a 3.0 biturbo may already in production in the form of the Porsche Macan S and the post-facelift Porsche Panamera S. A dealer contact of ours suggested this Porsche configuration used an Audi stamped engine block and was developed from there, though a second contact at Porsche wishing to dispel that rumor pointed out that the Macan/Panamera block shares bore sizes with Porsche’s 3.6-liter V6 and also their V8.

Okay, so this new Audi engine may not be the Porsche motor, but we’ve still been hearing that one is on the way from Audi as well. Audi engineers readily admitted that they considered such a setup back when the supercharged 3.0 TFSI was first conceived, though the immediate torque tendencies and lower unit cost of the supercharger made more sense for the broad application list intended for the current engine.

This biturbo will be new then. For enthusiasts, it’ll recapture some of the magic of the B5 S4 and RS 4 era, and it’ll also prove a cleaner and more fuel efficient alternative to the 4.2 FSI. We’re also hearing it just may exist in a lower state of tune for the B9 S4 and S5 models as well.

Given all of this, we have three questions of which we’ll be interested to find out the answer. First, we wonder just how tunable the new engine is and are expecting even more robust gains than we’re seeing on the supercharged 3.0 TFSI. Second, if it does replace the 4.2 FSI high-rev in the RS 4 and RS 5, then Audi will likely phase out that engine altogether… so would this engine go in the base R8? Last, the supercharged V6 received the “TFSI” nomenclature even though it wasn’t a turbo, so we’re wondering what they’ll contort the nomenclature when a turbo is produced alongside the existing supercharged 3.0 TFSI.

Interesting if true. A bit of turmoil and lack of self confidence at Audi design.

Changing design direction in the middle of a model's life sounds more like lack of self confidence to me. Or even changing design direction with every new generation. If any of the big three has been steadfast about their design language it is been Audi.

I would hazard a guess that Audi is looking toward achieving a balance between moving their styling game on without a quantum shift in recognisability.

^^^^This suggested swish line up the side isn't something new as it's been there on the A5 and R8 from the beginning so if anything it would tie the entire range together starting with the next new model the A9. The styling is interesting but it's what's under the hood and the mechanics that will float my boat and a beefy V6 Bi-turbo sound right up my street, I wonder will Audi finally introduce their electric turbo technology they show a while back as it showed real promise, power is nice but instant power with zero lag is even nicer.

Yes certainly. I have no qualms with admitting Mercedes has been frantic in the last decade. They now seem to have settled and come of age with a steady hand at the helm. There is much more consistency, coherency and resolve and I'm pretty confident this will continue. You won't see drastic about faces any more.

Apparently the now ousted head at Audi had insisted on some pretty vulgar elements for the next Q7, which is why it was delayed for a redesign. That has to be true, because the current vehicle is a dinosaur. Maybe the A4 suffered a similar fate?

Anyhow, that's why I said it's interesting if true, because Audi has been so consistent that it almost become mundane. It's as if they're due for a cock up to get some debate going.

About time. The A4 is really in need of replacement this year. If these mules are where Audi are in the development stage then it's another couple years before we get a new A4. Madness.

At this rate a new 3-series will be imminent as will the C-class FL, by the time the A4 comes along.

The current model is already starting to look a little long in the tooth.

As it should, it did come out in 2009 (perhaps earlier outside the U.S.)

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
