I have to say the Q7 looks pretty nice in real life.
At least, better than any Benz SUV (sans the G)
The wagon stance really kills it for me even though the Q7 is fantastic to drive. I like the last-gen better looks-wise.
So I am the only one who likes the Q7 and who doesn't think it looks like a big wagon?
This imo is one of those cars that just looks far better irl than in pics.
I've not yet sampled a Q7, but do you think it's better than an X5? Quality of the interior I mean.
Yes. Both the X5 and XC90 are great benchmarks for any brands, but almost every surface, button or switch gear of the Q7 and even Audi A4 just feels a bit more premium. The virtual cockpit add to the perceived quality and make you feel like you are in a car of the future.
The Q5 has a sliding rear bench which is a strong benefit over its rivals, however the BMW X1 has this too in addition to massive extra storage space under the boot floor.
I have yet to see the inside of the Volvo, but I always thought the X5 was a top manufactured product, with fantastic fit and finish. I would not say its interior design is perfect, but it is hard to say it has any quality issue of any kind.
However, as you say, the Audi Q7 is just on a league of its own now. The fit and finish is best in class IMO. If that is the quality we can expect on the new A8, A7 and A6, MB and BMW better do something about it, because they are clearly behind Audi here.
Once you touched these though, the illusion of quality quickly disappears, the textured plastic on the A4's transmission tunnel is particularly nasty. What makes Audi interior feel more premium is the conservative use of fake wood and piano black finish.

How would you rank that segment in terms of interior quality? I mean A4, 3er and C-Class (you can throw the Lexus and the Jag here if you want as well).

Not only the side of the tunnel, but the top as well.Transmission tunnels typically have nasty plastics are they are often only touched by a knee. They were nasty in my F30, barely improved in my X3. The 7-Series is one of the few cars I've experienced where the transmission tunnel is solid and covered in leather(whether fake or real)
IMO based on perceived quality, the C class is on top. There isn't really any hard plastic trim (besides the glove box handle) on the dashboard and the center console, however after spending 5 months in mine, I can see a few cases of cost cutting, which I will talk about a bit more on my own thread. The A4 is slightly ahead of the 3 series. The Lexus is behind the Germans, the leather trim are nice and smooth, the quality of assembly is very high but it is let down by the small details, and some rather obvious part sharing with Toyota. I haven't sat inside the Jaguar yet, I will like to check it out one day.How would you rank that segment in terms of interior quality?
