Hi All,

This is probably my first contribution to the forum.

I would like some insight on the q5 interior, however this image is from India where the q5 is been tested.

Do Audi hold legal rights to the names Q1. q6 or q4? Their nomenclature for their SUV's are all over the place.

Q2 should be Q1
Q5 should be Q4
Q7 should be Q6

Pretty sure they own the rights; they had an issue with Q2 and Q4 because Alfa Romeo owned those name rights but Audi and Alfa's parent FCA had a few talks about acquiring them. Didn't go anywhere at first but they reached an agreement shortly before the Q2 came out where Audi traded an as-yet unknown name of value to Alfa in exchange for 'Q2' and 'Q4.' Q1 will be a new mini-crossover based on the next A1, Q6 is going onto the production version of the e-tron quattro in 2018 and Q8 onto a flagship, five-seat fastback-styled SUV at the top of the range in 2018/19. Haven't heard much about a Q4 but it'll assuredly be a coupé-ish thing based on the next-gen Q3 due in 2017.

As for the rest of their names, why are they all over the place? Audi officials said from the get-go that their odd-numbered Q vehicles are meant to denote utility vehicles while even-numbered ones will represent "coupé" or more aggressively-styled cars. All we have so far is the Q2, Q3, Q5 and Q7, none of which are particularly style-oriented other than the chamfered Q2.

Thanks for the info.

Regarding the names, I'm trying to say that the Q3 has a clear relationship to the A3 - same platform, same transverse set up and generally the same appearance, and most importantly the same number.

The Q5 has a relationship with the A4 - but has the 5 allocation. To me it should be a Q4, and a potential coupe/sportsbacks version should be a Q5 to align with the A5 coupe

The same with the Q7 - and A6 equivalent. And the Q2...well isn't that related to an A1?

Oh dear, that front end looks terrible, I can predict this car will be less attractive than the current good looking model. Its a similar styling exercise they did with the Q7, an evolutionary step and also at same time a step back from previous models in looks.

The interior is nothing exciting to look at, for the first time this Audi has a infotainment screen that looks like its been attached to the dash and looks out of place.

The GLC and X3 have got nothing to worry about when it comes to looks and interior design,

September 29, at 1:45 pm CEST (7.45 am EST) is the date when Audi will lift the veils off the all-new Q5, during the 2016 Paris Auto Show.

Teased in a short video that hints at Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, the SUV reveals the design of its new rotary knob, which is used to operate the latest infotainment system, and mirrors the one found inside the latest A4 and Q7.

The two vehicles will also serve as an inspiration on the outside, where similar lighting units, a new grille and lines that will match the ones of its larger brother will be found, making the all-new Q5 more competitive against the likes of the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Underneath the skin, the 2017 Audi Q5 will ride on the MQB platform, which is used by numerous modern vehicles made under the Volkswagen umbrella, and will help it shed more than 100 kg (220 lbs) over its predecessor, according to previous info.

As for the engine lineup, the architecture will open the possibilities of four-cylinder and V6 petrol and diesel mills, mated to either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and pushing the output to the FWD or Quattro AWD, depending on the selected version. Rumor has it that an SQ5 is also part of the lineup, and chances are that the RS badge will be strapped to its body later on, for the most potent version, one that could see more than 400 HP.

Finally a confirmation. Nice key design!

I'm not banking on a third row but it would be a pleasant surprise if it has one.

They finally gave a date, i hope they open the orders soon.

If you mean horrible with pleasant, I agree.

It would be a gimmick. It would not properly seat anyone but a legless child. And it would f'ck up the proportions.

Give a child and iPhone and they don't mind sitting anywhere. The Discovery Sport just about got away with 7 seats without looking weird. However, the Q5 is old but pretty with its tight proportions and would look weird elongated.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
