2016 Audi Q5 rendering / RM Design
Featuring a Q7-inspired front end
The 2016 Audi Q5 is back in a new rendering project by RM Design.

We’ve already seen the vehicle being tested by the German company and we can tell it will retain its overall body shape and will feature a Q7-inspired front end. With that in mind, Remco Meulendijk has rendered the second generation Q5 with full LED headlights, familiar hexagonal radiator grille and sporty bumpers.

Based on the MLB Evo architecture, the vehicle will be up to 100 kg lighter than its predecessor and slightly bigger in its footprint. Engine lineup will be carried over from the current A4 which means a full range of diesel and petrol units will be available including a 2.0 TFSI with 252 PS (185 kW) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. A hot SQ5 version in both diesel and petrol flavors is also in the cards.

Audi still hasn’t provided an official debut date for the car, but we expect this could happen during the 2016 NAIAS in January or at the New York Auto Show three months later. The vehicle will be assembled at a newly established factory in San José Chiapa, Mexico.

Those renders look quite good, although not a revolutionary design and more evolution the front grill design like this maybe will look better on the Q5 than Q7

The Q5's proportions are far better than the Q7. I'm expecting the Q5 to right the Q7's wrong and end up looking as good as the current generation, if not better.

Looks like an evolution of current model with Q7 style grill, looks ok but not spectacular.

Following the same mistakes as the Q7. I take it Q5 is not overseen initially by Lichte and
Falls under Egger's direction or mis-direction?

Now thats a nice looking evolution, Audi is on the right track here!

Long time ago, Audi lost the design's direction. All new cars are evolutions hidden with facelifts. Would be very nice to see Revolutions....

Audi RS Q5 coming next year with 450+ hp?

Audi RS Q5 coming next year with 450+ hp?
A new report indicates Audi has plans to launch a full-blown RS version for the second-generation Q5.

The Ingolstadt-based automaker sees potential in an RS lineup expansion by giving its upcoming midsize SUV the sportiest treatment possible. Audi has observed an increasing demand in high-performance SUVs as sales of the RS Q3 are actually better than the company’s original estimations. Fueled by the success of this model, Audi thinks an RS Q5 would do well for the company.

If the report turns out to be valid, expect the Audi RS Q5 to feature a biturbo 3.0-liter V6 gasoline engine that will also propel the upcoming RS4 and RS5. The newly developed motor serves as a replacement for the naturally-aspirated 4.2-liter V8 and is expected to generate more than 450 horsepower. The engine has already been introduced in the S4 where it pushes out 354 hp and 369 pound-feet (500 newton meters) of torque.

As you would expect from an RS model, the flagship Q5 will come with a standard quattro all-wheel drive system and will utilize the same dual-clutch S tronic gearbox as the aforementioned RS4 & RS5 duo.

The regular Q5 will be introduced later this year, possibly in October at the Paris Motor Show before going into production in Mexico at Audi’s San José Chiapa factory. The range-topping RS variant is expected to follow about a year later.

2017 Audi Q5 speculative render sees into the future

It’s Friday, so our colleagues fromOmniAuto.it have prepared a new speculative render, this time of the upcoming 2017 Audi Q5.

Spotted numerous times testing in prototype guise, the second-gen Audi Q5 is getting closer to an official reveal and we expect an evolutionary design once the camouflage will come off. Seen here is OmniAuto’s vision of the Q5 based on recent spy photographs that have shown Audi’s styling department will once again play it safe. The body will be sharpened up here and there in the same vein as the larger second-gen Q7.

In terms of underpinnings, the all-new Audi Q5 will be based on the MLB Evo platform shared with the latest A4 and this will bring a considerable (estimated) weight loss of up to 220 pounds (100 kilograms). The engines and gearboxes will be pretty much borrowed from the A4 and later during the car’s life cycle there will be hot SQ5 versions in both gasoline and diesel flavors.

There might even be a full-blown RS Q5 in the second half of 2017 using an adaptation of the newly developed biturbo 3.0-liter V6 which could have in excess of 450 horsepower. The engine delivers 354 hp in the S4 & S4 Avant, but in RS-badged models it is rumored to adopt e-turbo technology to boost output and reduce lag as demonstrated by the SQ7.

If you prefer something greener, our spies caught on camera last month a prototype that lacked a visible exhaust tip which means that was likely an e-tron version featuring a plug-in hybrid setup.

Audi has not specified so far when the new Q5 will be out, but chances are it will be on display early October at the Paris Motor Show. While the outgoing model is assembled at home in Ingolstadt, production of its replacement will take place in Mexico at Audi’s brand new San José Chiapa factory.

2017 Audi Q5 Shows LED Headlights and Dual Exhaust During Nurburgring Testing

Audi had a busy day at the Nurburgring. Not only did the TT RS Roadster come out to play, but we also got to see a new version of the Q5 test prototype. Considering Volvo's XC60 is now the best selling car in this segment, Audi needs to reinvent its SUV in a major way.

We can see that designers and engineers are throwing literally everything at this project. At the front, a little bit of camouflage has come off, and we can see a useless piece of the grille. Who cares? What's interesting is that the headlights have been re-covered because full-LED projectors have replaced the Xenon Plus system we previously saw.

At launch, the Q5 may be LED-only, but the system should become a €1,900 (based on the A4) option soon after that. Design-wise, the Singleframe grille dominates the front end of the car. It should connect to the headlights using a chromed surface like on the Q7, but we can't guarantee that.

At the back, we see that this test prototype has been fitted with dual rectangular exhaust pipes on either side of the bumper. This feature has never seen before, suggesting only some models will receive it. Based on the size of the wheels, we suspect this prototype is the 272 PS 3.0 TDI diesel model.

However, the engine range of the Q5 will be at least as wide as that of its rivals. The least powerful unit should be a 2.0 TDI ultra engine with 150 or 163 hp. A TFSI gasoline-powered ultra model will also be offered with 180 PS. There will also be two V6 diesel engines, the same ones you see on the Q7. However, the gasoline V6 units will be reserved for the performance models.

The SQ5 should come out at the same time as the regular model and will pack twin-scroll turbo engine with 354 horsepower. In a few more years, it's possible that a twin-turbo RS Q5 model will follow.

However, the Q5 will not be an SUV defined by its power, but by its intelligence. The Kasparov of the segment should be able to do all sorts of clever things, including using the cruise control to drive by itself. Audi will even say that its infotainment system is faster than the best smartphone.

On the suspension side, we should see two suspension configurations (normal and sport) with two more adaptive versions of those. But all of them will use the 4-link all-round independent setup. One cool option we hope will carry over from the A4 is the quattro rear differential that helps the Torsen AWD system feel and act sportier. It will be optional on the SQ5 and the Q5 3.0 TDI 272 PS.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
