Phaeton [Spyshots] 2017 VW Phaeton - Spy Pics & Info

WOW good to see the development mule of the next Phaeton testing.
From what I've read in the VW Group Annual report Phaeton plug-in hybrid will be launched with this second generation model.

Although both the D5 Audi A8/S8 and Phaeton II are "finished" products, respective presentations have been reportedly delayed due to further developement with regard to autonomous driving functions. According to various reports published in the German automotive press, the Phaeton will be presented (EU) towards the end of 2016/beginning of 2017-shortly following the D5 A8/S8 presentation.

I`ve made a quick render on the basis of the new C Coupe Concept from Shanghai.

What´s your opinion?

Well we all know that is the "marketing" explanation of the delay.

It´s expected for early 2017. Präsentation maybe in late 2016. But not confirmed by VW.
Was in Germany last weekend with a good friend of mine, who works as a Manager @ the VW Marketing Dept. Apparently, more than 1/3 of the entire global Phaeton demand ever came from ONE dealership in Beijing, and that this coming model will be the last ever Phaeton. Never cared for the Phaeton so much but it somehow made me upset that VW will pull the plug after this new model

There is no possible way your buddy in marketing knows what will happen in 10 years, so relax.

And if they decide to end it, no biggie. Audi and Bentley will have the exact same car with a different badge.

Maybe not, but they are the ones telling the VAG Board of Directors about the market trends, and getting their feedback in response ;) So pretty sure that information comes from up top

In Beijing or Chengdu? the latter city has the most Phaetons all over the world.

For what its' worth:

Just over one month ago, Porsche CEO Matthias Müller made some interesting elaborations in an interview conducted by Autozeitung (issue 13). When posed the question of matrix streamlining, he alluded to the possibility of Audis' A6/A7/A8 automobiles using the Panamera II/Bentley Conti GT/Flying Spur II (making no mention of VWs' Phaeton) MSB platform in the more distant future. He stated that "currently, the VW-Group is optimally positioned with its' 3 (MQB, MLBevo and soon MSB) matrix strategy. But in 10 years, we can only speculate what the requirement may be.". He went on to specifically praise VWs' MQB (transversal) matrix for its' immense versatility as well as the upcoming MSB matrix, rather oddly not mentioning the MLBevo.

We know that the VW-Group is currently in the process of addressing model overlap. Whether VWs' Phaeton II will be the "last" Phaeton remains to be seen. Certainly, in order for the Phaeton model to survive, the series II car must be considerably (and I mean considerably) more successful in terms of unit sales than the current model has been. Much appears to indicate that it will be quite a remarkable automobile.
