M8 [Official] The New BMW M8 Coupé & Convertible (F91 & F92)

The BMW M8 is the high-performance version of the BMW 8 Series (G15) marketed under the BMW M sub-brand. Introduced in June 2019, the M8 was initially produced in the 2-door convertible (F91 model code) and 2-door coupe (F92 model code) body styles. A 4-door sedan (F93 model code, marketed as 'Gran Coupe') body style was added to the lineup in October 2019. The M8 is powered by the BMW S63 twin-turbocharged V8 engine shared with the BMW M5 (F90). Official website: BMW M
It's open.

Must not have been fully latched on one side, as the other looks quite flush. Regardless I must say I've been impressed with the 8-series vehicles I've seen in person from a panel fit perspective.

Yes this was the Munich Open hole-in-one prize. Which would have had its battery disconnected for the duration.
The Scottish Open winner got an X7.

Get me out of a doubt, I saw the original spy photos when they were published but did not know anything about technical data until recently, when they presented the car with close up of each detail and I could see that the wheels were black because they are made of carbon fiber, which is incredible for the time (we did not even know what that material was)...
This M8 had carbon fiber wheels and air intakes and I think some body panels as well. The monstor NA V12 had about 550PS which was a HUGE amount of power in 1990. They estimate it would have done over 200mph top speed and close to 4sec from 0 to 100kmh. It would have blown the Ferrari F40 out of the water.

And at least in my case it was the first car I saw with wheels like that.
It was worth it even if it was not a profitable business to do so, imagine with those figures BMW could give rest to the M1 as an icon, (it must already be tired of going to festivals) and even today and forever we would talk about that M8, another bad decision.

They have no excuse, they lost money with 507, with M1 and with Z8 as well, but what they earned in mysticism is unpayable

M850i for comparison huge difference.

Unsurprisingly the M8 offers more pops and burbles... but also that unpleasant farty note that's been the signature of M turbocharged V8 engines (although less than on the previous generation engine)... Not sure whether it has something to do with the manifolds geometry but it sucks, and it doesn't seem to exist at AMG, Audi, Porsche, Maserati...

The M850i provides less sound drama but offers a more pleasant and melodic classic V8 exhaust note.

None of those cars you’ve mentioned including the M850i have that crossbank manifold so I can only think that’s why the M5/6 don’t sound as good. It does seem to rob their throaty bark.

Definitely does affect the way it sounds:

“Q: And on the exhaust side? We’re constantly hearing about “cross bank exhaust manifold” and “twin scroll twin turbo technology” without actually understanding the advantages.

(Laughs.) The cross bank exhaust manifold is an optimised collector of exhaust gases for the turbocharger from each of the cylinders. The V8 engine runs with a stutter anyway, giving rise to the typical V8 bubbling. A twelve cylinder always ignites the cylinders in the bank in crosswise fashion, one left, one right, nice and regular.

For reasons of comfort, the V8 is fitted with a crankshaft that ignites twice in succession on the one bank and then jumps to the other. You can hear this highly irregular ignition sequence as the typical V8 bubbling in the exhaust tract, a sound you cannot hear from the engine of the new BMW M5.”

Real high quality interior can’t wait to see how it will pen out in the M8GC as a four door.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
