S-Class (W224) 2030 Mercedes-Benz S-Class W224 (Spy pics & info)

The Mercedes-Benz W224 is projected to be the eight generation of the S‑Class full-size luxury sedan. It will replace the S‑Class (W223). Expected to debut in 2030. Production: 2030- (estimated)
Which brings us to the eternal dilemma of whether it's better to be able to see it or to be able to tell about it.

I would expect nothing less than an insanely beautiful S-class, since the demise of the sedan is near, we need a very beautiful sedan (concept like). Each time I drive my c219, every single time to this day it attracts attention, granted not everyone wants it but I remember one day a middle-aged couple parked next to me in a brand-new s-class and still peeked through the window and they looked around my car. I will always remember that moment. Just few days ago I overheard kids passing by saying - look, look at that Merc. This car created memories, still does and will continue to do so forever. In my mind at least the c219 is up there with 540K, 300SL and so on.

C219 without doubt is one of the most beautiful cars of all time, however in this era of demising sedans what we need is a big proper three box sedan with huge presence. One of the reasons luxury sedan users migrated to luxury SUVs is road presence & space.

I always loved the first gen CLS, it is probably one of the most beautiful Mercedes cars in the last 20 years. The design is timeless and it looks nothing like any other car on the road.

It was a time when Mercedes debuted a “Vision” or “Study” concept and then the production appeared and it wasn’t too far off from the concept. Those were the days.

My pulse raced when I saw the Vision CLS at the 2003 IAA. By far the most memorable experience regarding that particular venue. Way up there (the Vision CLS as well as the C219) on my personal "Top Five Most Beautiful M-B Cars Of All Time" list.

When it comes to the CLS, my personal perception of "the generation with the best exterior design". Stacked in order of ranking:

This post perfectly shows how extremely ugly door mounted side mirrors are on a sedan (and indeed most cars).

Dislike door mounted mirrors even more than poor shut lines. They disrupt the flow of the design and always leave a black plastic void where the mirror should be. So bad. Only God knows why this f#cking Wagener at one point chose this door mounted solution for a lot of their cars.

And NO, I cannot for the life of me use the name Wagener and not curse. Grade A junk designer.

I agree, the door mounted mirrors look like Shrek ears.

I disagree.
Door-mounted mirrors are a reminiscence to Porsche (911).
They can be positioned a little bit nearer to the drivers position.
They allow a small but valuable look to the "11-clock-position", between mirror and pillar.
In case of 218, when everything is car-coloured, it avoids bad black glossy plastic (like 212).

My guess is the door mounted mirrors are in memory of the door mounted mirrors fitted to many older classics from the 50s and 60s. A-pillar mounted mirrors only came out in the 70s with the R107 SL and then W116 S-class debuting them for Mercedes and BMW also follow suit with the those fitted to the A-Pillars of the E23 7 series.
