911 (991) [Official] 2014 Porsche 911 GT3

The Porsche 991 is the seventh generation of the Porsche 911 sports car, produced from September 2011 to December 2019. It was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show on 15 September as the replacement for the 997.
Ok, manual gearbox. But where is manual hand-brake? How manual is rear-wheel steering? How manual are those electric heated-seats? How manual is the navigation system?

If you want manual, BRZ/GT86 is the way to go. If it is not enough luxurious, BMW is the other way to go. New 991 is so different compared to 997. (No I havn't driven either).

No seriously, the new 991 GT3 manual? Maybe yet the 918 Spyder manual? Oh no, you have the opening roof manual.

4C must have been manual, this yes, but on such a stupid configuration (RMR-T) it is too complicated, even if Lotus does that, it doesn't mean it's good.

well, explain to me why a manual would not be suited for the 991 GT3, especially with it's engine being one of a high-revving nature.

It is not the engine the problem. It is the overall pacakge. Can you explain me why a manual would be best suited for the 918 Spyder?

I never argued for or against having a manual in 918. But you still didn't answer why a manual would not fit into a 991 GT3 except by saying something vague.

Cause of electric seats, damnit, electric seats!!! :jimlad:

Why don't you argue for a manual in the 918 Spyder?

Would you like a manual in an LFA?

I will answer your question very short.
Because shifting gears manually is way more fun than even NA engines... go figure...
People like me who almost put down a deposit for this car are now driving something else.
The list on this site might include only me and Sunny but... you can figure that out too :)
We the buyers(not just potential ones) want a manual and that's it!

I too am a manual guy. I was very happy to find a 730i E38 manual and not auto. But would I want a 740i F01 manual? Never. I know you want a manual 991 GT3, and know you can and will buy it. Fine if you prefer it that way, but for me that is not natural, just as an automatic GT86. It is not just about all the individual parts (chassis, engine, transmission, etc) it is about the sum of all parts combined that should be greater than the parts individually.

A PDK would not make the 997 GT3 a better car, nor will a manual make this 991 GT3 a better car. This is not an opinion, this is way the car was made.

By the way, if you still would prefer manual, it must be 6 speed, not 7 speed.

Why don't you argue for a manual in the 918 Spyder?

Would you like a manual in an LFA?

A) I am not talking about 918 OR the LFA (shockingly enough). Plain and simple. I am discussing the GT3 as this is a thread for the 991 GT3.

B) Unlike the GT3, the LFA has not historical precedence...it can be powered by uranium and I would not bat an eye-lash. The 918's spiritual successors are the Carrera GT and, some may argue, the 959...extreme Porsches that were essentially a test-bed for advanced tech that has trickled down to other Porsches.

C) And to answer your question whether I'd want a manual in the LFA, I would be ambivalent if it was offered as an option. As long as it's properly calibrated and provides the best feel, then why not. See what I did there? I answered a question directly with out any vagueness, and without having to resort to answering a question with a question. THis is not a philosophy class.

D) And so I am clear, I am not against there being a PDK in the GT3. What I would like is the option for a manual.

I hope I am being clear. Now why don't you crystal clear in providing a concrete reason as to why a manual would not befit the nature of the 991 GT3? Again, please try to avoid answering a question with a question and stick to the car at hand, the 991 GT3, and not why Car X and Powertrain Y. That would be appreciated by me, and I imagine, other members as well.

Who said they are? But there are enough people like me. Offering a manual option would've been great. They already have great manual transmissions. Another thing is that many people(incl. me) fall in love with a brand after their first experience as owners. It's highly plausible that if I bought the GT3 my next daily to be a Panamera or a Cayenne and then change them with the next models. They are surely loosing by not offering a manual as I'm sure it won't cost them too much and the GT3 is a car that is manufactured by special order, not mass produced... meaning there won't be any collecting dust at the showroom floors. When I pay 150k EUR I want OPTIONS and manual is one of them.

Sorry, this was posted after I posted my reply....so you think the engineers at Porsche, of all carmakers, cannot engineer a 6-sp manual for a GT3 and not provide the proper feel?

BMW is still producing a manual M5... is it faster? Nah, it's not! Does it feel that flawless? Most probably not!
They are just giving people what they want where they want it or actually the option to CHOOSE.
So mate it's not a question of what's right... it's a question of giving the OPTION to choose... because people like to choose for themselves and you can't tell NO to people with money or someone that might bring many new customers after him.
Trust me I know what I'm talking about.

They are giving you the option to choose. Choose to buy what they're selling or don't buy from them. They can say NO to people with money (unless you buy the majority of Porsche AG shares, in which case you can tell them what to do).

How do you know that there are "enough"? Did you carry out your own research? Do you know more than Porsche management?

How do you know how much it would cost?

The car isn't too different than a regular 911. The systems and upgrades added doesn't have much to do with the transmission other then the transmission itself.
How do I know there are enough people?
Many of the people who bought the 997 manual GT3 will surely opt for a manual GT3 again.
The GT cars are more likely bought by a greater % of enthusiasts. In the case of the Turbo and 911 Cabrio... maybe not so much.

The problem might be that a manual GT3 might be cheaper than the PDK one and that might be something Porsche doesn't want it to be.
They told us that most cars they sell are PDKs but now tell me that most GT3s they sold were PDKs...
They are also trying to change the perception of the people about their cars and warm them up for what's to come.
We'll see if it's successful or not in the near future.

Same as you for LFA. But about historical precedence, I'm not sure. What to say about F82, now called M4, getting for the a turbo and in worst case a V6? Yet it will again be the best "M3" ever. PDK makes gear changes faster, what in turn reduces acceleration times. Manual would not be as fast, but it will be involving. And what about rear-wheel stearing? This too improves handling in curves, the car drives like on rails. But it reduces involvement. And so for all many other technological advances the new GT3 has. A manual, on this new 991 GT3, would be like a smartphone with retractable antenna.

Good argument in favor of a BMW Supercar. Imagine how many potential wealthy customers BMW is missing because of the lack of a supercar. I doubt the 8 Series will be enough, because their is enough of choice with Mercedes, Bentley, Maserati and Ferrari, not to forget a possible 929.

I'm sorry, but today there is no choice. It is all deciet. I can't chose any smartphone because there isn't the one I want. I want a high-end one (lots of choice) and I want a 3.5 inch display (little of choice), but both in one does not exist.

It's a premium-exotic car not a smartphone. My smartphone is cheaper than my maid's but she doesn't drive a car because she couldn't afford one. I earn money so I can have a choice. It sounds very arrogant but I don't like to hear "No".
If every time I heard "No" I was saying "OK" I wouldn't be able to afford that GT3 now.
We had a GT3 and 2x Turbos on a corporate deal for me, my colleague and a client.
Now we are considering a corporate deal for an S3 and 2x Audi R8 V10s.
I'm not saying Porsche will bankrupt because of that but they surely lost BIG customers in the long run that might have turned out to be loyal.

In hi-fi centers you are just another customer... in a Porsche dealership you should be treated like someone special.
They even rejected giving me a car for more than two days. Arrogant, indeed... but I don't care at all and will be happy to spend my money somewhere else...
