Funny..seeing hints of Bentley and Range Rover in this car. Wonder which colour combinations will play best to this shape.

A lady in my town swapped her MINI for the A1 Sportback because she needed practicality and did not want the Countryman. So now she is going to order the 5dr Cooper SD because now MINI has made the ideal MINI for her needs.
I imagine she will not be the only one who has done so.

You right those back lights somehow have a Bentley look to them. Also the black tinted C-pillars are the same like the Range Rovers!!! I actually think the back lights on this car and the 3dr version are the worst aspect of the new Mini styling, they terribly oversized now. I like the previous models slimmer back lights they looked more like the original Mini small slim back lights.

This car is just a "must" ... to give customers an extra pair of doors & a bit more rear & boot space to fight A1 5dr etc.

IMHO the new Clubman will be much more viable product. Larger, more refined, more practical, sportier. Something that will fight rivals in the C segment (A3, Golf, Focus, Astra, Megane, 308/C4 etc).

Also the new Countryman will be larger & more refined. More in line with the upcoming Mk2 X1. As pitched ... the current Countryman sounds like a joke compared the new one. The plan is to give Countryman the same extra pinch as the new Clubman is getting it (compared to the current one).

I am starting to get totally confused with all these different models, especially this and the Clubman. I thought the Clubman is supposed to be the 4dr practical type Mini! Or is it basically a station wagon version of the Mini? I agree with all you have mentioned about the various models. I think this 5dr hatch is supposed to be the practical sport hatch, like the Audi A3/A5.

I think that BMW are going OTT with all these different models, eventually it will come to a point where one of the models will sell really low and they will have to cancel this model and rethink their business plan. The whole essence of the original Mini has totally disappeared.

I prefer the smaller back lights of previous generations, but when you compare the total area of these lights to competitors in the class like this A1, you see that MINI hasn't gone that far overboard. Judged side by side with the previous MINI it does look huge though.

3dr & 5dr MINI are still the B-segment vehicles (Polo, A1, Clio, 208, Corsa, Fiesta etc).

The Mk2 Clubman will enter the C-segment (1er, A-class, A3, Golf, Focus, Megane, 308, Astra etc), since it will be approx. 24cm longer, 12cm wider and 3cm higher than 5dr MINI ... so, featuring dimensions of a C-segment hatch.

It will also be more expensive than 5dr MINI.

The new Countryman will also grow in size - to be more of new Clubman dimensions & space.

So, MINI is actually entering the C-segment with the new Clubman! That's a revolution for MINI. Till now all the MINI vehicles have been B-segment members.

And when launched the new Clubman will the largest MINI model (larger - longer & wider yet lower - than the current Countryman).

They don't look so huge IRL. They actually make the rear much more muscular & less girlish than the old (smaller) ones.

I am genuinely excited about the 5-door MINI. I simply love its retro shape and looks, but something like that with 3 doors doesn't make sense to me. I'd get a hatchback for practicality reasons, and having 3 instead of 5 is certainly not practical for me.

Now, I could see myself driving one!

The current Countryman is a joke, I'm well happy seeing mine leave the garage, my new A1 Sportback is a much better car. What I am looking forward to is the new Clubman, if it's as good as I'm hoping it will be the A1 won't be with me long, I am a MINI guy after all.

I know of several people who are happy over the 5dr MINI, especially those that overlooked the Countryman.

The Countryman was the right vehicle at the right time in some markets it is the best selling MINI and for a while it led the best selling MINI globally title. So people do love the Countryman they see it adequate for their needs in which it is a sign of the impact of small crossovers globally.

The next Countryman is more SUV like which allows for a more X6-like sportier low roofed Paceman replacement with 5 drs instead of 3.

The vision Superleggera concept is purely a vision between two companies but it illustrates if anything the creative process in Munich for a singular replacement for the MINI coupe and roadster to expand the branch with further individuality than one concept chopped in several different directions.
MINI design elements will feature in a progressive way as the concept but the application will be different but expect a classic roadster body with modern MINI elements such as the Coupe will feature an interpretation of the Current Coupe roof and a useable hatch as before.

First MINI 5-door Hatch Rolls Off the Production Line in Oxford

Today, the MINI plant in Oxford celebrated a first in its 100-year history, overseeing the first 5-door Hatch model leaving the assembly lines. The car, launched less than a month ago, is going on sale this autumn, in dealerships worldwide.

In the making of this new model, BMW and MINI invested over £750 million over the last 3 years with the aim of having a completely revamped facility by 2015. Amongst the special guests invited at the event were UK’s Business Secretary, Vince Cable and Frank Bachmann, Managing Director of MINI Plants Oxford and Swindon.

“The launch of the all-new 5-door MINI is a further boost for the UK’s manufacturing sector, and will help to secure jobs in Oxford and Swindon as part of BMW’s £750 million investment programme in the UK,” said Vince Cable.

“This is an exciting day for us with the first ever 5-door MINI for the plant, which opens up a whole new market segment for the brand,” added Frank Bachmann. “BMW Group has invested in creating state-of-the-art technology and facilities at Oxford and Swindon for the launch of this new generation of MINI, demonstrating the company’s commitment to a long-term future for its UK production sites,” he added.

The latest member of the MINI family will be indeed looking at a new segment. It will be aiming at those people wanting to be part of the family but that couldn’t live with the limitations of the 3-door version. Adding those extra doors in the back could make the biggest difference yet in persuading these possible customers.

In order to make the 5-door version on the same line as the 3-door one, the factory had to be fitted with new tooling for the body sides, new equipment in the wax sealing line in the plant’s paintshop to accommodate the extra door and differences in the shaping of the rear of the car, new rear door cells in the sub-assembly line at Plant Swindon and a new roof and panel tooling in Swindon’s press shop.

Yes these wheels are from the MINI " Yours" programme and will be optional.
Recently drove the 5dr. Its the MINI , MINI fans have been waiting for if they have needs for extra flexibility.
I can see some owners who fled for larger and more flexible compact and sub-compact cars coming back to MINI.
Already orders are coming in ahead of launch in the last quarter of 2014. This will be big not just for MINI but BMW AG annual group sales.

MINI

Mini (stylized as MINI) is a British automotive brand founded in 1969, owned by German BMW since 2000, and used by them for a range of small cars assembled in the United Kingdom, Austria, and the Netherlands. The word Mini has been used in car model names since 1959, and in 1969 it became a brand in its own right when the name "Mini" replaced the separate "Austin Mini" and "Morris Mini" car model names.
