In my humble opinion its harder for a premium brand to scale down and keep the quality as it is for a sub-premium brand to scale up, Merc do top-end luxury better than just about anyone but at the other end of the scale they are clueless.

You guys are off the mark IMO. The A class interior is easily on par with the 1 series. So yes if you feel the 1 series has a cheap interior, then the A does too. In terms of design the 1 leaves much to be desired. I've never understood with the pre obsession with the golf interior. It's easy to spot where cost cutting is implemented and it's certainly not above either the 1 or A. Yet to sit in an A3 but it looks better than even the a4 from the press photos.

Regarding the interior quality, I have to say the A-Class is the worse of its class. The 1er comes in close second worse place, as it´s quite ugly, in fact the ugliest IMO, but better materials than the A-Class. VAG has the edge on this segment, as the Leon and the Golf are the second car with the best quality. And the first is of course the A3, with a level of craftmanship I can´t remember from any other time in a long long time.

Pitty is the standard A3 looks quite plain and boring.

In fact, I would go for the Leon.

Audi has done a great job with this sedan. Looks really proper. Makes the CLA look like a bar of soap! Still keeping my fingers crossed for the A3 sportback coming here as well.

Back to reality and forget about the WRX Concept: The Audi A3/S3 Sedan is amazingly beautiful. For me it takes the place of the best all-rounder which people say is the Golf. This is just so much better. It is a sedan, and I'm not really a fan of hatches, eventhough there some good ones that I like too.

Yes, that's right, what self-respecting premium car manufacturer would build a compact car based on a FWD platform that doesn't have perfect driving dynamics... please do remind me.

Yikes it is stunning. I'd take the S3 over the CLA 250, not sure about the CLA45 though. I keep seeing a really nice Jetta here.

The only small thing I'd change to make it perfect would be the door handles ON the character line. But it's fine as it is, this car deserves to sell well!!!

Hope you don't mean the Van called 1er GT, because that's not exactly small. BMW small cars have RWD, make no mistake. Now lets continue about the Audi and not the BMW. BMW has it's own section.
