A6/S6/RS6 Next Generation Audi A6 (C7)

Osna, I'm in concurrence with almost everything you just said. You summed up Audi's design approach well with that song anaolgy. They have a great design, but it's the same bloody design. Though, I still think that BMW has some variability in their design language...keep in mind only the 5er and 7er look similar during this design cycle. We haven't seen what the new 1er and 3er will look like. We can infer the design of the 6er based on camouflaged prototypes and the GranCoupe concept, and even there there's a lot of variability between that and its sedan counterparts. M-B has been quite good the last 15 years about having a consistent design language while giving each line up its own identity. But then again you slap on that M-B grill and it has too try real hard not feel part of the M-B family.

Also, I feel the current A6 exterior is a dilution of the previous Bauhaus-inspired A6, but the interior quality and layout was and still is superb....only surpassed by the F10 5er. I'm still looking to see what Audi has in store for the A6. I do like that they are slimming down the headlights with this...that's at least a start. Also is it me, or have they done a pretty decent job of reducing the front overhang of this car?

Stuck is maybe the right word.

I love the way Audis look right now and think they have a superb lineup - The only problem is the general lack of variety in their playlist. It's like a band that only plays ballads... great ballads, but only ballads.

No matter what is coming from Audi at the moment, you can be sure that it's going to look pretty much like every other "song" from Audi, with 3 verses, a bridge and a key change.

Strangely enough, the same can be said of BMW. Everything post-bangle has been the same predictable song and dance save the Z4.

It's mind-numbingly ironic that the most stuffy brand of the bunch - MB - has the lineup with the most thematic flair and model-to-model individualism.

I'm still looking forward to this A6. The previous A6 was an unsurprising, dull affair - but still handsome as all hell. And we can be sure this A6 will continue that tradition.

So they are giving a new A6 a sporty and aggressive headlight design of the A7 Sportback Concept, while actual A7 Sportback gets conventional and boring A8-like styled headlight clusters? Very weird. Usually a coupe gets more aggressive face since it fits better to the car's character. :t-hands: Audi is now offering a big coupe with tame face, while their executive saloon features aggressive one. Go figure.

If you look at the A5 and then to the A4, wich was launched after the A5, the front lights are more aggressive in the A4 than in the A5.

audi are in the evolutionary period so its quite obvious what there designs are going to look like.

Audi design is going right down the drain, as BMW's rises. By this time next year BMW will have a better looking lineup overall than Audi, something I didn't think would happen.

Audi designers are just plain stuck.

Of course, how can anyone think just for a second that Audi designs are boring?. For God´s shake.
your entitled to your opnion yo i ve never claimed that any brand sucked let alone make brash judgements of a camoed spyshots its funny how many bash the audi brand and how much animosity is displayed over it

i view the other way around

This is the usual boring designs that Audi seem stuck with, I just wished their were as adventurous as BMW. ;)

You can't have it all :usa7uh:

New A7 will look nice. Just like the A8 and A7 are nice. Great stance, good proportions, elegant, agressive, etc... Just it's that it's the same as every other Audi, and the design language is getting old to say mildly...

You can see the real interior now. It seems retrartable screens are what it´s comming from Audi. The layout seems to be the same than the A7 (same case than A4 vs A5?).

Honestly, Am I the only one who knows exactly how the car is gonna look like?.

EDIT: new pic of the back:

Seriously guys, this has to stop now, I thought the A8 was an ugly bastard, but this... This is the ugliest thing I´ve seen from Audi in a very very long time.

This is as close as you're going to get to the 2012 Audi A6 for awhile. It's not scheduled to arrive in the U.S. until late next year, but these photo illustrations are based on the latest prototypes that revealed much of the car's new shape.
Clearly the overall design is evolutionary, something we've come to expect from Audi as of late. The edges have been softened a bit and the greenhouse has been drawn back a little, too. As expected, the rear end mimics the styling of the already revealed A7, another midsize four-door that will slot just above the A6 in the lineup.
And like the A7, the 2012 Audi A6 will consist of a conventional steel chassis that uses numerous aluminum parts to keep the overall weight down. The standard suspension will use traditional steel coil springs, while an optional air suspension will also be available. Audi's Drive Select system will also be part of the offerings, so even if you don't opt for the air suspension you'll still be able to adjust the steering, throttle and damper settings.
Expect to see a fully revamped powertrain lineup that could consist of all forced-induction engines. On the low end, this A6 may introduce Audi's potent 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder as the base engine. Audi's TTS coupe already has a 272-horsepower version of that engine, so it wouldn't be giving up much power to its competitors' entry-level engines.
Midgrade models will likely use the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 already available in the current A6, while top-of-the-line versions will get Audi's new turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. That engine will likely offer an eight-speed automatic transmission or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch setup.
An official unveil of the 2012 Audi A6 is expected at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, with sales beginning later in the year.

I see way more accurate the Autobild´s render I´ve posted, this last one is too nice, and too A7-ish.

I definitely would not call the Autobild render ugly, its just portrays an evolutionary update to the current model.

I would agree that the Autobild render is probably the closer of the above two given previous Autobild renderings.

It seems like Audi is adopting Porsches approach of modest exterior updates once they have basic theme set up for two to three generations. Which is not a illogical approach as long as the original car is not ugly in the first place.

Honestly if anyone is expecting a completely new look to the A6 they are setting themselves up for a huge disappointment.

With that in mind I think the Autobild rendering looks really good.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
