A6/S6/RS6 Next Generation Audi A6 (C7)

Dwelling on the subject of taxicabs:

I appears as though M-Bs' former stranglehold on the taxicab market has loosened a bit over the course of the past few years. One now sees many VW Tourans, Skoda Octavia and VW Passat wagons used as cabs. VW has been heavily promoting cab-spec packages for these cars.

I am actually not sure as to whether BMW even continues to offer a taxicab-specification package. I recall them doing so back in the late 70s and early 80s' on the first E12 5 series 524D models, but the venture did not appear to be successful. I believe that Audi continues to offer a taxicab package but keeps extremely low-keyed regarding its' promotion. BMW and Audi taxicabs are very rare sights indeed.

^ Agreed, here in the UK we are seeing more purchases of Skoda Superbs in both saloon and estate form compared to all the other VAG brands. I must say that for this purpose I can't think of a better car of the road to offer the size, appearance of luxury at a price both on purchase and service like it.

At the same time, I have talked to many people from EU Countries that use the E as such, and they seem to revel the car further due to that form of use. And it does give us in the States, that extra confidence that our here-Premium cars have that kind of durability and preference record in EU for such rigorous tasks. :D

Exactly. Recently, the local newspaper ran a story of a cabbie who'd clocked up one million km in his W211 without any major problems, and that certainly speaks volumes for the build quality and durability of the car.

On a personal level, the fact that a certain model is popular as a taxi wouldn't put me off at all. I expect to see a lot of the new A6 in taxi ranks, among the E-classes and 5ers and what have you...

BMW have been running a fleet of taxis for years in Germany, I believe the place is called the Nurburgring. Hasn't harmed it's popularity. :D

Man, Europeans have such a clear head when it comes to cars.

Out in the States, it's so ego-driven. Being a Taxi writes a vehicles "cool-factor" off completely. I love how so many people can actually look further, and compliment a car even further, when it's used, and preferred, and lasting, during Taxi use.

That's true, but keep in mind what was used for taxis here in the state for a while, ie. Crown Victoria and Caprice. Which were archaic barges. Heck, the Crown Vic has been on the 30+ year-old Panther platform. Not exactly keeping up with the times. Yet they could take a beating and kept on ticking. The E's, 5er's and A6's platforms were either new or updated with each generation. Hmmm, I had a point with this....:eusa_doh:

With the reveal only days away I though I would turn attention to the next RS6, development is underway and will be as much a star as the last one, don't think for one moment that Audi will let either the M5 or E-class AMG win all the glory.

P.S.
I nearly forgot, this one will be going stateside.

Is Audi going to release the new RS6 within 2 years of the launch of the new A6, or do we have to wait til the end of the model cycle again.

Several recent articles published in the German automotive press lead me to believe that Audi will pick up the pace with regard to the introduction of its' RS variants. For example, I recall recently reading that the S7 will be introduced at the 2011 Geneva show and the RS7 was slated for a Frankfurt 2011 premier. Far quicker than what we've witnessed in the past with the RS4, RS6, RS5, TT RS, etc.

The upcoming 4.0 TSFI that has been developed jointly by Audi and Bentley will reportedly be good for close to 600 HP. Should this hold true, one can be assured that the RS7 as well as RS6 will be bonafide roadrockets.

The life cycle of the A6 is approximately 7-8 years and development of the RS6 has already started, what do you think. ;)

Very true. Crown Vics wouldn't be popular in this day and age ("this day and age" meaning the past 15+ years) even if it weren't a Taxi.

However, you gotta give those barges credit, they are tough as nails, and do the job damn well!

I´ve read that the new RS7 will have a 4.0 TFSI with 550 hp, which is a downgrade from the previous model. What have you heard?.

Oh, I can tell you that. It will have somewhere between 550 and 600HP. The final number is still under discussion ;).

And when it does end up somewhere there, I will make a post about how I predicted it right and end it with a ;). If it is wrong (which it won't be since it is not exactly rocket science), I will claim "I was given wrong information", which then mystically gives even my bull shit this veneer of credibility.

As this car's development will continue after the launch of the M5 it's fair to say that the goal will remain to be competitive with it's main rivals. Weight will be key on this occasion, I can openly say that at the moment I don't know what output it will end up having other than it will be lighter than the competition, that's the only thing that was stressed to me.

NO WAY! Another Audi insider! Ooo ooo I also wanna play.

Some say that real Audi insiders know that the A7 is built on the same platform as the Panamera. ;) ;) ...and that the V6 engine in the Panamera is sourced from Volkswagen Audi Group ;) ;) ;)

...all we know is... it's called Cack.

How'd I do?

You know what's the next step, right?

You are proven as wrong as you can get, and all you say is:

Somebody with bad sources said:
I think I jumped the gun regards to stating the two shared platforms (my bad) but they did share quite a bit during their developments, what exactly that was I don't know but like I said at the beginning (which started all of this) I was told the two cars share technologies and where co-developed, but I mistook this to mean using the same platform.

;) ;)

Haha, sorry, you suck. You forgot to mention how real Audi insider's also know Porsche's attempted takeover of VAG was all along Piech's master plan. You also have at various times exhibited substantial knowledge of the workings of a torsen diff and other AWD systems to be a real Audi insider. But I will give you 5/10 for the prodigious use of winkies. ;).

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
