So basically they put the Huracán's engine into the R8 Plus without any power-modifications... good. :)

Audi R8 2015 ride review: hot lap in Audi's searing new supercar

Verdict

It’s impossible to cast a definitive verdict on such a driver-focused car from the passenger seat, but the good news is Audi hasn’t tampered with the R8’s winning formula too much. With the Ferrari 488 GTB and McLaren 650S both turning to smaller turbocharged engines, could this V10 model be one of last great naturally aspirated supercars? We wouldn’t bet against it.

Jethro Bovingdon gives his passenger verdict....

http://www.evo.co.uk/audi/r8/15280/2015-audi-r8-explored-first-details-on-the-brand-new-supercar

"Remember when the R8 was launched way back in 2006? Out of nowhere Audi – at the time producer of finely-crafted but usually pretty leaden, uninspiring cars – created something truly outstanding: Fluid, nuanced, supple, adjustable, tactile and achingly desirable.

I remember very clearly driving it for the first time and thinking ‘who the hell developed this for Audi?’ Since then the R8’s concept-car shape and dreamy dynamics have barely aged. But now here is its replacement with an all-new chassis (shared with the Lamborghini Huracan) and mighty, mighty shoes to fill. Today I’ll be a passenger as it screams around the Ascari Race Resort. God I hope it still feels like an R8..."

How much lighter will it be? And what will be the major changes? Electric steering and stuff like that?

I am impressed with the 1454kg curb weight, if it is really true. That is not much more than a 991 GT3 despite the V10 and the AWD hardware.

It won't. I have absolutely no idea why, or any sound reasoning for my opinion, but let's make it clear now. The new R8 will not be better than the current R8. :D

You have a manual transmission, it will always be better! :D.

ps. I really dislike these ride along "reviews".

Is that the absolute dry weight? I think it is. So I guess the EU1 weight including driver and 90% fuel, and luggage, will be around 1,500kg?

The GT3 EU1 weight is 1,505kg.

Yes! Brilliant. That's a completely valid reason too.

Huracan just got better in the form of R8 V10 Plus ? Less understeer obviously, same power with redline/fuel cut-off pushed from 8250 to 8850 rpm, more gimmicks (laser headlights etc.)...

Adding a driver (70kg), 90% fuel (at least 50 kg) and 7 kg luggage will take it well over that. I think it will be closer to 1600 kg EU than 1500 kg EU. But 1600 kg EU is still nice for a 600 hp V10 coupe wit AWD, imo.

I'm not sure how I'm going to like the Quattro concept as the R8. It makes the R8 less "special" as seeing the Quattro was to slot below the R8...more along the RS5 lines.

@klier and @Rolf - The picture in my avatar is one of the pictures developed using the last Kodachrome film. I was very impressed by this pic as I'm of Indian descent and this was a pic of a old school "sadhu" aka holy man. I'm not religious, but this guy's hair, facial features and style is unique!

Also interesting to note that the Lambo Huracan has a dry weight of 1422 kg on the official website, so I think that 1454 kg is the dry weight too.

Sorry, I meant to write 1,550kg EU1. I seem to remember the unladen weights being around 25kg more than the dry weights, and the Eu1 100kg more than the dry weights. But you might be right. 1,550kg still seems a bit too good to be true, especially when you consider the current R8 V10 is 1,695kg.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
