S-Class CL-Class Facelift (Spy Photos & info)

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.

Front looks stunning…rear…well no big improvement. Would have loved rear lights, like the facelifted W221 has!

We already pretty much knew what the front would look like but now we can see the rear with the separate reverse lights. Like ree, I was hoping for more W221-influence on the rear lights.

I don't understand this facelift. Why didn't MB encorporate some of the new design language into the CL?
The SLS and SB concept grill would have looked great on this model. Then they took out the arch on the front fender. This was actually the best executed front wheel arch on a Benz, and they scrap it???
The rear lights look dull and unispired. The additional lights on the trunk lid look stupid. I love the sculpted bumper on the SB concept. Yet the CL gets the most boring bumper you could imagine.

The headlight shape on the CL was fine. simple, nice shape. Yet it appears they've farted around with this and put some useless styling quirk in.

As a 12 year MB veteran, I give this a big fat F.
IMO, I think they could have just updated the headlamps and taillamps, and it would have done just as well.

Completely agree with you mate. Now the CL looks visually unbalanced, the previous well defined fender nicely complement the rear wheel arch. Those reversing lights on the boot lid looks hideous and poorly resolved. Why can't they just include them within the tail lights? The angular front grill and lower air intake do go well with the soft and curvy lines on the rest of the car.

i guess i found new pictures.. looks like the front gets a bit E-class style :)
i like it :D

The upfront, T square derived front design is totally at odds with the curvaceous rear. How much chrome do MB need to use, honestly? Every panel of that car is glitzed in chrome.

I think because it is so late after the S-class that there is really no WOW factor. Especially considering that it will be getting similar details like the S-class. Well except for the rear.

The CL looks vastly different from the S, I don't see the connection to be honest :t-hands:

I don't think a 7er has much less chrome really :t-hands:
It doesn't look like there much more chrome than any other high end German luxury car. They all have a lot of chrome.
