GLK Successor Arrives in 2015: the GLC

The Mercedes-Benz GLC with internal code X253 will succeed the X204 GLK series, and arrives in 2015. We currently expect the GLC to become available to order in mid 2015 followed by a market launch in September 2015.

The new SUV of the X253 series is no facelift, but a completely new model and will be named according to the new future nomenclature, showing its family ties with a "C", which can be seen as the last letter in its name.

The GLC increases by 10 centimeters / 4 inches in length and will receive softer, more rounded styling, in contrast to the edgy look of the GLK. Similarly, a GLC Coupé (C253) is planned. The GLC will also use the latest technology like a stereo camera from the current C-Class, including Head-Up Display and LED headlamps.

Launch in the fall of 2015 - GLC 63 4MATIC planned

Shortly after the launch in September 2015, a plug-in hybrid may also be added to the 253 series. If further rumors can be believed, in addition to the base four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines a 4.0 liter Biturbo V8 as Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC may debut in 2016, possibly with 462hp, or in an S-model with 510 hp.

is the new GLC going to assembled along side the C, GLE and GLS in Tuscaloosa, AL, USA or will it continue to be built in Bremen?

Bremen will certainly remain the lead plant. Some rumors, so far unconfirmed as far as I know, indicate Tuscaloosa may also be tasked with GLC production for North America, perhaps depending on demand. The GLC Coupe (C253) is to follow a few months later. :)

The GLE Coupe will be produced alongside the GLE, GLC, GLS and C-Class saloon at Mercedes-Benz's US manufacturing plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It is planned to underpin the German car maker's stand at next month's Detroit motor show.

Both of these renders look very good, especially like the Carscoops version it looks quite realistic.

This little SUV may be my next purchase to sit next to the CLA for my wife. I am still holding out hope that there is a some sort of differentiation in the interior with the C...

I understand using the same interior saves money and therefore they can put more money into the quality, but I don't like the copy paste...

Really Phy? The C-class interior is so good, I'd gladly take a mild derivative of it on the GLC. I suspect with this new nomenclature Mercedes is adopting we are also going to see much more 'sharing' across models.

No huge differences, but maybe a more SUV type of trim... I don't know... I just don't like the copy paste idea. The small differences between the A, CLA and B I think are great. I don't like how the CLA and GLA dashes are identical. My biggest pet peeve on the GLA actually is how the door panel and dash aren't harmonious in how they come together unlike the CLA, especially with the stitching which I have.
