I think this is a bit unnecessary, will have to see how it works in real life to know for sure. Has anyone ever been dazzled by the brake lights from the car in front?
I see this feature not necessary but more of a thoughtful convience.

I think is going to Turn ON brighter then normal ( to get attention of car in back) and then get back to normal brake light brighness. Some Emergency vehicles use similar tech , I always thought it was smart idea.

It makes no sense, because it depends on other drivers having to learn to differentiate between when this particular model is using normal or high intensity lighting. BMW tried it before.

In that picture it looks like a Chrysler.

I think those "dimming taillights" or whatever it's called that M-B is bringing to this S are very applaudable and necessary. My eyes get very bothered when behind many of the cars with obscenely bright taillights these days, to the point where I've even had to close or squint my eyes (or turn sideways).

Same goes for headlights, I want to bash a car with aftermarket Xenon's that are blinding to other drivers. M-B and I'm sure other manufacturers use adaptive HID's which don't push full blast unless there's no cars in front of you. I think it's a great consideration to other drivers, though I gotta say it kind of sucks as those of us with HID's can't get the full benefits of the far reach in city traffic, which is why my headlights which are more than powerful enough technically, were too dimmed when I was driving a moderate speed and came up on a cone in middle of the road, forcing me to hit it since I didn't have enough time to fully swerve out of the way.

I like what I see in the test video. Love the graphic version w222, with the open trunk, where the shape of the rear lamp is clearly to see. And I like the long period of testing, it serves improvement. At the end of testing a great new flagship-another example of modern german engineering-will wait us.

Whats the significance of the trunk opening part of the video? one of the people walked up to it and it opened by itself

The grille and headlight and overall front end relationship look very blocky and boxy. Considering how many new M-B's have a similar front style (SL, A-Class for example), it looks like the S will unfortunately continue that.

Maybe it's the chamo playing eye tricks, however again, the SL and A both have blocky headlights.
