Q5 [Spyshots] 2017 Audi Q5 spied for the first time

Transmission tunnels typically have nasty plastics are they are often only touched by a knee. They were nasty in my F30, barely improved in my X3. The 7-Series is one of the few cars I've experienced where the transmission tunnel is solid and covered in leather(whether fake or real)

It's a recent thing. There was less hard plastic in the E90, and there was even less hard plastic in the E46.

Ahh... The good old days... As this is an Audi thread, I would be content if this new Q5 had the same build quality of the B7 A4. What a fantastic interior that car had.

IMO based on perceived quality, the C class is on top. There isn't really any hard plastic trim (besides the glove box handle) on the dashboard and the center console, however after spending 5 months in mine, I can see a few cases of cost cutting, which I will talk about a bit more on my own thread. The A4 is slightly ahead of the 3 series. The Lexus is behind the Germans, the leather trim are nice and smooth, the quality of assembly is very high but it is let down by the small details, and some rather obvious part sharing with Toyota. I haven't sat inside the Jaguar yet, I will like to check it out one day.

However when it comes down to actual solidarity of the various switches and buttons, Audi is still the class leader.

One area of the GLC that feels a bit lacking in solidness is the big aluminum trim on the door. When you add a bit of pressure on it, it flexes.

Interesting, I have the black ash trim on mine, it looks nice, but it is very very thin when you look closely. Also the padding on the door pull is much thinner than any previous gen Mercedes.

My CLA door panels are far more solid than the C and even the S. It's truly something that irks me about the S. You push on the door panel as a whole and it flexes. Knock on it and it sounds hollow. My CLA door panels don't flex at all. C class same thing. Haven't tried the new E yet. S may be covered in leather, but cut corners on the inside.

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
