WCF reader envisions 2016 Mercedes-Benz SL facelift

2016 Mercedes-Benz SL facelift render / Tobias Hornof

A WCF reader from Germany has sent us several renders of how he sees the 2016 Mercedes-Benz SL facelift.

Based on the spy shots we published back in February, the independent artist decided to envision the facelifted SL by applying a front fascia similar to the AMG GT and chances are the real deal will have something in common with this unofficial render. We do know the 2016 SL will receive full LED headlights as well as redesigned side skirts and a different rear apron while the taillights are expected to borrow some cues from the S-Class.

According to the latest gossip, Mercedes-Benz will begin taking orders for the SL facelift in December which means a reveal will occur by October or so. It is believed customers will start getting their cars by March next year.

Rear revision good, front revision kills it. Wagner is quickly turning everything into his CLA monstrosity. As for the next SL (let's say 2020), I still say it needs 4MATIC + technological weight reduction measures to compensate, without sacrificing the hard-top. 4MATIC would solve it's most glaring problem as a daily, which is that it's a no-go in heavy rain / snow. As for those saying that the AMG GT is a problem for the SL, I disagree - the AMG GT looks like it is specializing in the Porsche 911 GT3 big-spoiler suede-carbon loud-colour bucket-seat racetrack market. The SL is for driving like a boss.

I just don't think a facelift can help this car. The proportions are wrong. Way too much front end bluntness for a roadster. A shame. This is the car I was supposed to buy back in 2012.

Yes, suspect it might be an early mule to test the new Multibeam LED headlights from the S-Coupe, similar to this one posted previously.

If it were only that easy. I can't be without a BMW now either. For me the perfect garage would be a MB, BMW and a Porsche. I'll get it right soon enough lol.

I think the inverted grille will be used on the AMG variants to further differentiate them from the standard variants.

Rounder Faced 2017 Mercedes-Benz SL Shows Its Cabin As Well

Mercedes-Benz is prepping the SL for a mid-cycle facelift that promises to give the hardtop roadster a much better-looking snout inspired by the AMG GT.
Our scoop photos indicate that the entire front end from the windshield to the nose will receive a makeovergiving the SL a rounder and more modern appearance with almond-shaped headlamps and a more oval center grille together with a new hood, fenders and bumper.

At the back, changes seem to be limited to the re-profiled bumper and exhaust tips, but it's highly likely that Mercedes will update the tail lamp graphics by the time the car reaches production.

For the first time, our spy shooters caught a clear look at a prototype's uncovered interior revealing a new steering wheel design, a slightly larger screen for the updated infotainment system, and revised buttons on the center console.

The refreshed SL is expected to arrive next year.
