I think BMW design is by far the most interesting of the big three Germans right now.

It's taken Mercedes a long time to sort out its styling .....but I finally feel that some consistency is returning to their approach. The AMG GT is easily one of the most beautiful cars built in the past 50 years imo.

I have been fascinated by BMW over the past 15 years since the introduction of the E65 ......one of the most iconic cars of the 21st century. Since then we have seen BMW become the design leader of the automotive industry. BMW has easily been the most adventurous and most influential .....producing some of the most extraordinary and beautiful concept cars. Both Audi and Mercedes have taken inspiration from BMW over the past decade.

We have seen BMW develop its styling from the peculiarly heterogenous styling of the e65 to flame surfacing; biomimetics; the "melted ice" organic styling; and the parametric design we are seeing today.

This is interesting and I guess it's not recently updated cause they say M4 has not yet been used.

This was in the 1980's. Alongside the M8 they also developed an M7. Reitzle was very active in his role as head of Research and Development. He foresaw ideas which were unheard of back in the day which have now become de rigour today.
Remember at this time there was BMW M and AMG were not assimilated by Mercedes-Benz yet.
I honestly don't. Believe we will ever see anybody like Reitzle head up R&D ever again, this was the age of adventure before the dark times before the Empire ( that brought legislation , environmental issues etc)

Wolfgang Reitzle was something else and if I think about it, partly responsible for BMW's revolutionary turnaround. It's a shame he left/resigned over board politics and jumped ship to Ford when he did. The L322 Range Rover greatly benefited from that of course, as did the entire Land Rover brand. I personally thank him for his efforts, as without him, Land Rover might have eventually followed Rover into oblivion and BMW might have eventually stagnated.

Land Rover are more or less following the BMW vision for the brand.
Which in early strategies they envisioned a Range Rover family , a brand within a brand spanning a small concept all the way through to the flagship Range Rover.
Did BMW give the V12 L322 and LWB models to Land Rover? It was the window to today's Range Rover.

Uhm .... I was searching for a G11 thread ...... ideas where it has gone? Anybody?

I think people have lost a bit of interest since we saw the entire car a month ago. Dogs need bones, I hope he see the M Pack 7er sooner than later, waiting till summer for the entire release does not make much sense IMO.

This render looks fantastic and very realistic!

You're not joking! For about five seconds I thought it was a genuine leak!

I would guess the brochure and official photographs haven't been taken yet though. Assuming the official internet reveal is around July, then I expect the press shots to take place in March/April, probably in South Africa or Australia like the F01.

Gees Betty I was in shock first time I saw this it looks so damn real like something out of a catalogue shot! This must be the best render I have ever seen in terms of attention to details and colour effects before a car is launched. I really hope the 7 M package does really look this in the front and I we all sigh with some relief! This front lower intake design does look very very nice, similar to the 4 series concept.

^^Looking at that rendering...And hearing what Audi head of design talked about. It seems like BMW and AUDI are trading places. While Audi is actively trying to differentiate all their cars, BMW is trying to with the "same sausage different lengths" philosophy that Audi was criticized for. Not saying that the render doesn't look good...but more and more I'm getting disappointed with BMW's design philosophy.

Yeah, baby! This is what I was talking about.

^We will have to wait and see what remains of Lichte's claim to differentiate the different models more. Audi is a VERY board oriented and steered brand which makes change hard to implement and to predict (unfortunately sometimes).

That´s a dangerous path to follow. Look at MB, they are doing the same too. Audi was been doing that for ages and are now trying to move away from it.

We can argue about Audi when that time finally and actually arrives.
For the rest, BMW cars will have a strong family resemblance, but will be different from each other like always before. That last render is unlike any other BMW front, so I don't see the problem.
Either way, it's not a dangerous path because what Audi is doing now is pretty much invented by BMW. So if anything, they already know what will happen. And this all besides mentioning the fact that Audi has been breaking sales records with the same design for over 10 years.

I say it is dangerous because everyone critisizes that about Audi. 30 years ago every BMW and MB looked almost the same, yep. In fact, the only time BMWs have looked different was with Bangle. I prefer further distinction, but I´m not against brand look as long as it is not a carbon copy.
