According to a forum user on Bimmerpost a new G88 M3 Touring may have been very recently greenlit!? Previously, only the M3 EV was planned to have a Touring variant.

Right, that would be the obvious trend at the extremes if it had to be one or the other, since out of the two, the 3er is the one that better embodies a driver's car characteristics (lighter, lower, better driving position...) at the expense of the family car characteristics (ease of access, roominess, storage space...), while the iX3 better embodies the opposite. (Especially if the Touring isn't in the pipeline, as some were speculating, but that's highly unlikely.)

I hope they reconsider the Touring G5(1) now that the markets have spoken. It could prove to be a costly omission.

Maybe if my family was all obese and couldn't fit in a sedan that would be the case.

Did a 900 mile roadtrip in my E46 with my parents, sister and dog a few years ago. It was more than enough space, and the new cars are so much roomier.

Damn are we not car lovers on here lol. Idea of doing a roadtrip in a cool fun to drive car is like my favorite thing ever. We had bigger cars we could have taken, no need to have rented, but the trip was somewhere with amazing mountain roads so taking the E46 there was super fun. If it was uncomfortable or "awful" no one else in my family would have agreed.

Really hope this is true, but the account seems a little questionable. Seems like he just joined last month.
